Study Skills Success

"Katie is a high school student who came to Sylvan for study skills. Her struggles were in test taking and turning assignments in. Katie was often absent, and she would fall far behind in her classes. Through Sylvan, Katie learned to break her work up from her absence into manageable parts while keeping up with the current work. Katie loved the note taking lessons and became an expert at taking notes in class, which helped her understand the material better and improve in her test taking. Katie's mother was impressed at how much Katie has matured in her time at Sylvan."

A Big Jump

"My son started second grade at a reading level of a beginning first grader. He was having difficulty with all subjects because even math required reading. He came home one day and told me he was in the "dumb" reading group.

Sylvan started working with him and we saw immediate progress. Not even a year later, he is reading at a fourth grade level and has tested into the gifted program. I am very happy we went through Sylvan!"

A New Girl

"Before we started Rachel in Sylvan’s reading/writing program, she was always frustrated with reading and writing at home and at school. She showed little interest in either subject and seemed to feel “her goal” was out-of-reach. It was not for the lack of trying, but she was missing some ingredients of knowledge that kept her from understanding the subjects. At school, she would not participate in class functions that involved reading or writing. She would not read in front of people. She had difficulty comprehending what she read and could not answer questions about what she read.
Thanks to Sylvan, all the problems mentioned above are no longer present in Rachel’s life. She is like a new girl, is full of confidence, and enthusiastic about reading and writing. She raises her hand in class! She is reading 2-3 books a week at 4th–5th grade levels! Thank you Sylvan!"

He Now Likes to Read

"When Declan started Sylvan he was reading 44 words correct per minute. His confidence was low and he had great self-doubt. He was enrolled (in Sylvan) for the school year and has made excellent progress. He is currently reading 85 correct words per minute, which is considered to be within the benchmark for fluency for second graders.

He now likes to read and finds some books enjoyable. In short, we are extremely happy with his progress and would recommend Sylvan."
