Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Joshua Park
Center Director
Joshua graduated from St. Joseph's University with a Masters in Secondary Math Education. He taught for the School District of Philadelphia for 4 years, before leaving to pursue a career with Sylvan Learning Center.
Joshua played many roles at the Center City location before moving to the Northeast Center as the Director of Education. In August 2009, he returned to Center City as the Center Director.
Joshua currently resides in Fishtown with his wife.
Joan K Rainer
President
Joan Rainer opened Sylvan Learning Center in 1989. This was the first Sylvan in a city location in the country.
Joan lives in Philadelphia and has two children. She graduated from Temple University and had a career in educational publishing before opening Sylvan Learning Center.
Lynne Zayas
Director of Education
Lynne graduated from St. Joseph's University with her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Elementary Education. She taught at the elementary school level for 3 years. She now has over 20 years of experience in the learning support field.
Lynne's wealth of experience and knowledge of the Sylvan Programs allows her to most effectively build individualized programs for all of our students.
Lynne lives with her husband and three children in New Jersey.
Christina Zayas
Administrative Assistant
Christina is currently going to school for nursing. She lives in New Jersey with her parents and siblings. She manages our office and is the first person most of our families meet.
