MaryAnn started at Sylvan of Denver as Center Director in November of 2013. She replaced Lisa Layton, who transferred to Broomfield as Center Director in December. MaryAnn graduated from George Mason University with a B.A. in Communication, concentration in Public Relations. She is currently finishing her M.Ed. in Elementary Education at Regis University. Before joining the Sylvan team, MaryAnn worked with first grade students in Jefferson County Public Schools. In her free time, MaryAnn loves to fly fish with her husband, hike in the mountains with her dog named “Dirk,” and travel to visit family and friends on the east coast.
Bethany graduated from Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL with a B.A. in Elementary Education. She has been in education since 2001 where she started as a third grade Language Arts teacher. That next summer, Bethany tutored at Sylvan and was eventually offered the Director of Education and Center Director positions. After four years with Sylvan, Bethany went back into the classroom as a third grade language arts teacher in a gifted and talented magnet school in Tampa, FL, where she continued as a third grade language arts teacher at a gifted and talented magnet school in which she also earned her gifted certification. As a classroom teacher, Bethany spearheaded her school's Go Green Campaign, a Penny Drive for Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Food Drives for the Salvation Army. She cannot wait to get settled into her new home in Denver and begin making a difference in the lives of the students and families at Sylvan and the community.
Rhonda worked at Sylvan in Aurora from 1994-2003 and has been at the Denver Sylvan since 2010. Rhonda received a BA in Education with majors in Art History, English, and Literature from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. She taught at Denver Christian Middle School for 37 years and was a Docent at the Denver Art Museum for 10 years. Rhonda tutors our Sylvan students in reading, math, algebra, writing, study skills, and ACT prep.
Emily started at the Denver Sylvan in the fall of 2013, but has been with Sylvan since 2007. She received a BA in Liberal Studies from Sonoma State University with a concentration in kinesiology. Emily also attended California State University San Marcos for her K - 12 multiple subject teaching credential. Emily has taught 2nd grade through Geometry and everything in between. At the Denver Sylvan, Emily tutors students in the areas of reading, writing, math, algebra, geometry, study skills, and ACT/SAT prep. In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and dog "Cash" outdoors hiking the trails.
Carly has been with the Denver Sylvan since 2010. She received her BS in Physics from Brigham Young University. Carly tutors our students in basic math, algebra, geometry, calculus, and ACT/SAT prep. In her spare time, Carly loves to read and help those around her. She also loves the outdoors and exercise.
Unique has been with Sylvan Denver since 2010. Unique received her BS in Political Science from Howard University in Washington D.C. She is currently pursuing a Master/PhD from Adams State University in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. Unique currently teaches 4th grade at Pine Ridge Elementary School in the Cherry Creek School District. At Sylvan, Unique tutors our students in reading and math. In her free time, Unique enjoys cooking, traveling, shopping, and exercising.
Mary has been with Sylvan Denver since 2002. She is a graduate of Benedictine College in Atchinson, KS, where she received a BA in Elementary Education and a BA in Philosophy. Mary has taught 3rd and 5th grade students for 31 years in a Denver area private school. Mary has over 10 years of tutoring at the Denver Sylvan, serving Denver Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools, and Cherry Creek School District. At Sylvan, Mary enjoys tutoring our students in reading, math, writing, study skills, algebra, and ACT prep. In her spare time, Mary enjoys reading, baking, crafts, and crochet.
Hillary has been with the Denver Sylvan since 2013. She received her BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing from the University of Colorado. Hillary also attended the University of Arizona and received her Elementary Education teaching credential. Hillary is currently working as a para-educator in the Cherry Creek School District and has also been a substitute teacher for grades K - 5. At Sylvan, Hillary tutors our students in reading and math. In her spare time, Hillary enjoys arts and crafts, horseback riding, and reading.
Cari has been with the Denver Sylvan since 2012. She received a BA in English from Pepperdine University, an MA in Ministry from Abilene Christian, an MTS in Theological Studies from Texas Christian, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Theology and Ethics from the University of Denver. Cari has taught 7th grade English for 5 years. At Sylvan, Cari tutors our students in reading, math, writing, and study skills and also assists the directors with testing. In her spare time, Cari enjoys sleeping, reading, watching movies, and taking her dog to the park.
Grace has been with the Denver Sylvan since June of 2013. She received her BS from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a major in mathematics and a minor in education. Grace has 3 years of classroom teaching experience and has been tutoring for 6 years. At Sylvan, Grace tutors our students in math, reading, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and ACT/SAT prep. In her spare time, Grace likes to hula hoop, run, and watch Netflix.
Leah has been with Sylvan Denver since 2012. She graduated from Wartburg College, where she received her BA in Elementary Education. Leah has worked as a teacher's aide in Denver Public Schools and has several years experience teaching 3rd and 5th grades in Denver and Aurora Public Schools. At Sylvan, Leah enjoys tutoring our students in the areas of reading, math, and writing. In her spare time, Leah enjoys reading and hiking with her dogs.
