An ACT Success Story!

"Hi Jodi -- I just wanted to touch base & send a “thank you” to you & your staff. My daughter, recently finished the ACT prep class & advanced reading course -- classes she took largely in response to a very low reading score the first time she took the ACT. We just checked her on-line scores and her reading score went up 8 POINTS!!!!! (An added bonus - her science score increased 4 points and her math score increased 2 points). Her overall composite went up 4 points.

More importantly, she is reading “voluntarily” for the first time. She no longer loses interest (because it was such a chore to read each word & it got boring) & is already through her first book for AP English next year. Her increased reading speed will surely help her in her last year of high school & certainly in college.

"My son saw your ad on television and said "mama, I want to go there to help me with my spelling". Nick is 8 years old, spelling was difficult, reading was choppy, and he was also in the middle of going without Ritalin for ADHD. He was having some side effects from that med and having suspensions from school and missing classroom time. He started at Sylvan, and loved it. He wanted to come here and the token system really helped. Nick received good reports and positive comments about his focus (still off Ritalin). Sylvan staff attended meetings at Nick's school and explained their part in Nick's life. We received positive reports from Sylvan, until we were told he was at grade level and could discontinue if we decided that. I asked Nick and he said he wanted to continue, as coming here made him feel smarter. The ratio is 3 to 1 and that really helped Nick. We've noticed he's more confident, reads more smoothly, and spelling, although still a challenge, is now possible. Today is Nick's last day. His hockey is upon us, plus he's ready to go without Sylvan for awhile. We are very grateful for all your help. We look at Sylvan for our children as a place we'll visit whenever our kids struggle with their learning. Thank you!"
