Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Vanessa Walters
Enrollment/ Marketing Director
Vanessa Walters comes to Sylvan with a background in education, eLearning programming, and project management. She is very pleased to be part of the Sylvan family, and looks forward to many exciting years with the organization. Vanessa was born and raised in the Maritimes, and currently lives in the HRM with her husband and daughter.
Catherine Gould
Registrar
Catherine has been with the Sylvan Learning Centre for 7 years. Catherine was the Centre Director of the Bedford Sylvan Learning Centre before taking on the role of the Registrar.
Heather Osborne, B.Ed.
Instructor
Heather joined the Sylvan team in June, 2008. She studied at Memorial University in Newfoundland and in 2004 earned a Bachelor of Education with a focus in Science. In her spare time, Heather enjoys reading and spending time with friends.
Jane Henderson Roy
Director of Education
Jane has been with Sylvan for over 12 years and she has done it all. She is currently in the role of Director of Education and will be there to meet your educational needs.

Nikki Lovesey, BSc, BEd
Instructor
Nikki is a graduate of Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology. She completed her Bachelor of Education, Elementary, at the University of New Brunswick. She is currently a substitute teacher with the Halifax Regional School Board and volunteers with LINKS Literacy Program.In her free time, Nikki enjoys reading, running, baking and going to the movies with her friends and family.

Julie joined the Sylvan team in August, 2010. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas University and a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) degree from Cape Breton University. She is currently a substitute teacher for the Halifax Regional School Board. In her free time Julie enjoys reading, photography, and spending time with her husband and family.
Beverly Evans
Instructor
Beverley joined the Sylvan team August 2010. She is a retired school teacher.
Beverley graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with her Bachelor of
Education and St. Mary's University with her Master's in Education (Curriculum
Studies). She enjoys helping children succeed in their reading and math skills.
Beverley spends much of her time volunteering in the arts community
(Symphony Nova Scotia and Halifax Dance). She enjoys swimming, reading
books, listening to music, and going to the theatre.
