As a Blount County native and graduate of William Blount High School, Robin has strong ties to the area. She earned her B.S. in Social Studies/Secondary Education from Middle Tennessee State University, followed by an M.A. in Middle Grades Education from Gardner-Webb University.
With 8 years of teaching experience in the public schools on both the middle and high school levels, Robin knows what your children will encounter in school.
Robin has been with Sylvan for over 6 years. Her free time is spent with her husband and son. Robin also loves to read and spend time outdoors.
Cindy is a veteran teacher with over 30 years teaching experience. She retired from the Blount County School System in 2004. Cindy holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee. She joined our staff in January of 2005. Of Sylvan Cindy says, "I really enjoy working here, spending time with all age groups of children and having the opportunity to teach individual students the skills they need to be successful."
Joyce has been teaching at Sylvan Learning of Maryville since our opening in 2005, and is a 4th grade teacher at Townsend Elementary School. Joyce earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee and has 10 years teaching experience in the public schools. At Sylvan, Joyce teaches students enrolled in our Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Math Essentials, Study Skills, and Academic Writing Programs. Her favorite part of working at Sylvan is the opportunity to teach different age groups. In her spare time, Joyce enjoys hiking and any other outdoor activity.
Chris has been teaching at Sylvan Learning of Maryville since 2008, and earned his Master's of Education Degree from the University of Tennessee. He is also a full-time mathematics instructor at Pellissippi State Community College since 2009. At Sylvan, Chris works mainly with students in our Math Essentials, Advanced Math, and Study Skills Programs, and he loves the friendly atmosphere at the center. Chris is married with two children, and enjoys playing the guitar.
June earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. She taught Kindergarten for 16 years in Blount County Schools before overseeing educational programs at the American Museum of Science and Energy. June began teaching at the Maryville Sylvan Learning Center in August 2009, and works with students in our Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing, Study Skills, and ACT Prep (Reading and English)programs. Miss June says her favorite part of teaching at Sylvan is "getting to know each unique student in an entertaining setting". Miss June spends summer leisure time working in the year, swimming, or reading books on her sunny lake dock while in the winter she enjoys hand stitching, baking, or reading books. She and her husband Jeff, an architect, renovate their homes and cars on the weekends.
Camille began teaching at Sylvan Learning of Maryville in 2011, and has her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia College. She taught at the elementary level for 5 years in Georgia before moving to Maryville. For the past 5 years she has been a 1st grade teaching assistant at Foothills Elementary School. Camille teaches students in Beginning Reading and Academic Reading at Sylvan. Camille says what she likes most about teaching at Sylvan of Maryville is " I love seeing the students' progress over their time here at Sylvan, and seeing how their academic achievements build self-confidence". Camille is married with 3 children. Her oldest will be starting college this Fall! Her favorite hobbies are scrapbooking and paper crafts.
Emily earned her Bachelor's Degree in Child Development and Learning from Maryville College and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She has been with us at Sylvan of Maryville since March 2011. Emily is a Pre-K teacher's assistant at John Sevier Elementary School. At Sylvan, Emily teaches students in our Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing, and Study Skills Programs. Her favorite part of teaching at Sylvan is "seeing the students succeed while gaining confidence. I also love the joy on their faces when they earn the Sylvan tokens!". Emily grew up in Maryville, and considers herself very fortunate to have her family close to her. She loves to participate in outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, and even hunting with her her fiancee! Her favorite activity is being involved with the John Sevier Running Club.
Tom is currently a 4th grade teacher at Middlesettlements Elementary School with 5 years teaching experience. He has been an instructor at Sylvan Learning of Maryville since 2009 and teaches students in the Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, and Math Essentials Programs, and working with these children is what he enjoys most at Sylvan. Tom recently earned his Educational Specialist Degree from LMU. Tom enjoys spending his free time with his wife Krisha and daughter Kaylee.
Jeff earned his Master's Degree in English at Belmont University and has 8 years teaching experience. He began at Sylvan Learning of Maryville in 2011, and teaches students in Academic Writing and Academic Reading. Jeff says he "loves working with so many great students and teachers at Sylvan". Jeff is marreid and has a wonderful dog named Layla.
Kevin began teaching at Sylvan Learning of Maryville in 2011, and earned his Bacheor's Degree in Mathematics from Maryville College. At Sylvan, Kevin teaches students in our Advanced Math, Mathematics Homework Support, and ACT Prep (Math)programs. His favorite part of being a Sylvan instructor is " working with the students and seeing them grow in their confidence and ability".
