Just yesterday he picked up a book on dinosaurs and, unprompted, started reading it to me. I was so impressed by how he sounded out the difficult names of the dinosaurs! He seemed to really enjoy it, too. I have a feeling that we will come back to Sylvan as Ben goes through school.

Changing lives...one student at a time

"When we first placed Zack in Sylvan in the third grade by his school's standards his outlook was dire. Retention was their cure all. He had been tested for ADD by the school and his pediatrician. Had a battery of other tests from the school and also many visits to the school counselor. He was never a discipline problem just an attention issue.

It was a very stressing time and we had a very despondent child that thought he was stupid and would act out by hitting himself or calling himself stupid. Sylvan corrected all of that.

You identified the gaps he was missing from his previous grades. Those gaps being the major player in his inability to move forward. He's gone from Retention status in the third grade to he is absolutely going to fifth grade.

He does still need some fine tuning and confidence building and we will be backing that up over the summer with your help. You and your staff did not just educate our child you gave us the sweet loving young man back that we had before the public school system categorized him into a status that just wasn't so. It was not his inability to learn or grow it was their inability to teach and nurture.
