Success Stories

Sylvan Success

"Dear Staff of Sylvan Learning Center,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done to accomplish our goals with Paul. You have been very positive and encouraging through the past nine months that we have been attending the center. Paul has made great strides in his abilities and we are extremely proud of his accomplishments."

- Eva S.

Good Times

"Sylvan Staff,
Thank you so much for helping me with my math efforts. I know it is going to be sad to see me walk out the door, but I'll be back to visit. I had fun making the environment around me light up. I had fun making you all laugh. So I guess good times do come to an end but the memories wont."

- Kevin S.

Thank you.

"Thank you for all the help you have given me over the years. I have always looked forward to coming to Sylvan and I will miss you all very much."

- Samantha C.

Spark for Learning

"Thank you for working with our nephew Bryce. Even though he was only with us for three weeks you did such a great job getting him in for as many hours of class as possible. Bryce loved going to class each day (a miracle in itself) and he returned home with more self confidence and a spark for learning. Thank you for showing him that learning can be fun and rewarding."

- Raymond and Kellie L.

Great Time

"Thank you for everything you have done with me. I had a great time with you guys. I had a great time and thank you. It was great to meet new friends."

- Austin T.

Confidence

"My son is very confident in his abilities and his teacher regularly notes to us about his love of reading."

"We had a positive experience. I've already recommended Sylvan to another parent."

"Where my children's school was lacking Sylvan covered and enhanced. Keep the highly professional and caring staff that we have dealt with in Mentor!"

"The whole experience was positive. My daughter was hesitant at first but the math teacher was fun and helpful. She was flunking Algebra but is now passing and understands the concepts."

"My daughter went from a fourth grade reading level in comprehension to a seventh grade level in one year. She was used in some of Sylvan's Success Stories. The program is magnificent and I would highly recommend it to anyone."

"The staff at the Mentor facility is wonderful. They are energetic and motivated which in turn motivates others. We have nothing but praise for the entire staff."

Responsibilty

"I am happy to report, my son had a 4.0 the first nine weeks and is doing well the second quarter. In speaking with him about his experience at Sylvan, he said that much of what he covered wasn't new, and that he had been exposed to it before. However, he felt that Sylvan helped him focus and understand how to use some of the skills better. From my point of view, I feel Sylvan helped him take more responsibility for his time and be better organized."

Sylvan Commercial

"It was the best investment of time and money. The staff are incredible. I feel like we lived one of your commercials! My daughter is a better reader as well as a more confident person. I cry thinking about how she has grown while attending Sylvan."

"Until my son went to Sylvan I felt there was little hope for him reaching high school, he was so far behind for his age. Now he brings home good grades on his own. I have started to think now about college for him if he keeps up the effort. I think he will, as he seems much happier and confident. Thank you Sylvan!"

"The staff was friendly and helpful. They always had a positive and cheerful attitude. They were very good about giving my child compliments and confidence. It was a wonderful learning experience for us all!"

"My son feels more confident and better prepared for school and the upcoming ACT. Also, my son has some health issues, and the center and director have been understanding and helpful whenever we have had to adjust the schedule due to illnesses, and I appreciate that very much."

- Tina D.

"The staff is always friendly and accomodating. My daughter is an honor student who is basically there for homework assistance. She is treated with respect which is appreciated. By the way Maria is great!"

"I am Ryan's Uncle and I live in Georgia, even though he attends in Mentor, Ohio. Thus far he feels very good about his progress, participation and attending Sylvan. He has only been going about a month and the first progress report is due later this week, so we are all anxious to get it. Dawn has been great so far."

"Where can I begin?!! ~ I just spoke with Joanna D. Her daughter, Mariah, has been coming to Sylvan for a little over a year. Here is a story of dedication on the part of parent and Sylvan. Joanna confided that she spends her first 2 weeks of her paycheck to keep Mariah at Sylvan. And she will continue, AND sings your praises to everyone who asks what she thinks about Sylvan. At first, she was worried but she says, 'I will pay anything. There has been such a turnaround with Mariah's attitude and willingness to participate. She used to cry every day and say, 'I HATE SCHOOL! I HATE SCHOOL! I HATE SCHOOL!!' Since coming to Sylvan, there has not been any of that.'

In addition to helping Mariah with grades (went from F's to C's) all of you here in Mentor have helped Mariah learn how to ask questions. You all had worked with her bad attitude. You found out that her attitude is really a defense mechanism because she doesn't understand something. She would not ask questions if she did not understand. Through the token reward system, you have helped Mariah develop into a student who will ask questions. Mariah quickly learned that if she asks a question she will get a token....You worked that into a system so for her 2nd question she gets 2 tokens and 3 question she gets 3 tokens. Mariah LOVES THIS!! This is especially important, as Mariah's self esteem had been so low because of things said to her in school. She not only had shut down but had blocked off any help. You all have transformed that.

My favorite part of the call was when Joanna related what happened when a Sylvan commercial came on TV recently. She said, 'Mommy, I love learning at Sylvan and I LOVE LEARNING.' Joanna asked her, 'What is the biggest thing you could say about Sylvan?' Mariah responded, 'They made it easy for me to learn!"

"I spoke with Retta W. this morning. She is very happy with her experience with all of you in the Mentor Center. Retta indicated that when Kevin started, he was at a 1.9 GPA, She said, while Kevin has struggles, he is continuing to improve all the time. She has so much joy knowing that Kevin is now attending 8th grade with a 2.6 GPA ~ all because of the work you are doing with him. She is singing your praises to everyone."
