Reading
Through Mastery Learning, we teach students second grade and above how to read and comprehend that material. We focus on Word Analysis, Vocabulary and Comprehension. This program is perfect for either remediation or enrichment.

High School Reading
It is critical to not underestimate the importance of reading in high school–particularly as complex assignments and long-term projects require more attention to and strength in this area! Let Sylvan’s reading experts develop a personalized plan to help your teenager become a more proficient and confident reader in the following areas:
Writing
- Applying the writing process from pre-writing through publishing
- Applying composition techniques to new and existing writing assignments, including the development of effective thesis statements, development of topic sentences and supporting paragraphs, and organization of details and transitions

Writing
Course is for those in 4th grade and above. It teaches how to write: how to get ideas from in the head onto paper, how to organize those ideas into a coherent whole, and how to write so others understand what the writer is saying. This course is of particular interest to those who will eventually be taking the SAT or will need to write in their profession.

Study Skills
For 4th grade and above. Through Mastery Learning, the student will cover several areas. Organization and Time management - how and where to study, how to use an organizer, manage time, and so on. Note taking strategies - the student decides which of 4 note taking styles s/he likes best and we work with that one. Reading strategies - how to read a text faster and more effectively. Test taking strategies - methods to making test taking less onerous.
