My husband and I wish to tell you how appreciative we are at the progress Francis has made in less than a year's time. I remember that night in Dec '06 when you explained how far back our son was in 8th grade. I was sure that it would take a lifetime for him to catch up. But, after our conference on Oct. 16, 2007, much to my relief, Francis has pulled off a miracle, especially in math.

For him to understand integers faster than older students seems too good to be true. His math teacher at Toms River North wanted to know the secret to learning and understanding integers. She was told by guidance "He goes to Sylvan Learning Center." He is now on multiplying decimals. We again THANK you and your staff for all you have done. And when Kathleen comes for SAT prep in Jan. '08 we hope you will be able to help her also.

"I would like to commend Charles from the Sylvan Learning Center. I brought my son there to be evaluated earlier this month. Charles went over the results - apparently my son is AWESOME in reading! Not so good in math. Charles not only spoke to me but included my son in the meeting as well. Making sure he knew and understood the results and the plan we were putting in place. Ryan started his time at Sylvan last week - and looks forward to going! There is no fighting to get him in the car - he is ready with interest. I wasn't sure how this whole thing worked as far as the other children there learning - it was explained in detail to me as to how they group the children. I like the fact that Ryan is in a study group with older children. When I asked Ryan what they were working on and about the other kids there - he told me that everyone was quiet and focusing on their work - So HE had to focus too! The staff is nice and he rotates teachers each time. We get re-evaluated in May. So far so good! Oh - and Charles was so patient with me when I came in yesterday to totally change the already in place schedule! Thank you Charles! If your child/children need some extra help - Go see Charles - He is kid friendly!"

Your SAT course Rocks!

"Dear Charles,
I just wanted to write a thank you note to say how much the Sylvan SAT Prep Course helped me. In the eight week course, I learned valuable test taking strategies from my instructors Katie and Christine. The small class size allowed for plenty of individual attention, and the two workbooks were full of useful practical problems and exercises. Going into the course, math was my weakest subject but with Katie's instruction, my score went from a 490 to a 610. Christine, who tutored the group in verbal, made the work fun with flash cards and SAT vocabulary charades. Overall, my combined SAT score went from 1860 to 2010 due in large part to this program. I would recommend it to any of my friends.

"Dear Chris,

I want to thank everyone at Sylvan for providing Richard with superior teaching methods which enabled him to succeed in math (going from a low C to a B to a B+ to date in his HS level Algebra I class in 8th grade), and positive learning experience that have allowed him to be all that he can be.

He loves math again, is no longer intimidated by the challenges of the subject matter and learning environment and has regained his self-esteem.

"When my son first came to Sylvan, he was having trouble with algebra. He was in danger of failing. He was absent from school alot in the 6th grade which was a large part of the problem. It took a couple of years until it caught up with him. He was put into basic skills math which made him feel inadequate. After just a few sessions at Sylvan, I noticed his confidence was coming back. He worked hard and it is paying off. He is out of basic skills and he has his confidence back. This year he has geometry (with algebra incorporated),and he is starting off the first marking period with an A. Thank you Sylvan!
