Math
Algebra I
Strong algebra skills indicate a student’s future success in college. That’s why Sylvan’s customized Algebra 1 program enhances these skills and provides the foundation for success in more advanced high school courses. Students will learn and apply essential algebraic concepts including:
•Analysis of patterns and functions
•Graphing and mathematical connections
•Problem solving, critical thinking and reasoning
Students also complete exercises using graphing calculators to enhance their understanding of algebraic concepts and processes
Reading
Advanced Reading Strategies Seminar
This program can double or triple reading speed while improving comprehension - a MUST HAVE for middle and high school students. Select the session most convenient for your schedule:

Writing
Sylvan Academic Writing
Sylvan’s Academic Writing Program helps students in grades 4-12 master a variety of writing formats and styles, including descriptive essays, comparative passages, persuasive writing, expository writing, summaries and outlines. The program will also include exercises in:
•Grammar
•Vocabulary and paragraph structure
•Essay development
Students learn and practice a proven process to good writing: pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing and publishing. Computer-based assignments help students develop and master important writing skills.
Study Skills
Study Skills
All students, regardless of skill level, can benefit from improved study skills. Sylvan’s highly effective Study Skills Program helps students in elementary school, middle high, and high school develop a personal study process that works best for their individual learning styles and academic needs. Using assignments from school, students learn and implement:
•Organization and time management
•Effective note-taking skills
•Reading and study strategies
•Test-taking strategies and techniques
By streamlining the study process, students learn faster, retain knowledge for longer periods of time and recall material with greater accuracy. Students become confident with their new skills, helping them tackle challenging tests and assignments without anxiety or frustration.
Homework Help
Homework Support
We assist students in understanding the assignment and make sure the work is completed with a thorough understanding of the material. We help prepare for tests and exams.
In most centers, enrolled Sylvan students have the benefit of receiving homework support when they come to the center for their regular tutoring sessions. We may devote a small amount of time each tutoring hour to providing homework support.
