Focus on the Student, Peace and Harmony at Home"We are so grateful to Sylvan Learning Center, in Walnut Creek, where the focus is on the individual. They work to identify where the student gets stuck and to find ways to get under, over, around or through the barriers. They work with the family and with the student to develop priorities and approaches suited to that specific child and that specific family. They keep parents/caregivers plugged into what's happening and/or to changes that are occurring. Instead of the teachers being authority figures, the teachers become guides and facilitators, not objects of fear or even of authority - knowledge yes, authority no. The method does not oppose teacher and student. Rather, it puts them both on the same side of the desk.
