Designed to Close the Gap in Reading and Math
All four Sylvan centers in Maine offer Praxis Prep, providing personalized instruction and test-taking strategies.
Praxis Prep's goal is to provide a review and instruction of the skills and knowledge typically found on the Praxis I exam.

The Basic Skills Review program helps students develop competency in core reading and math skills that can help many adults who need to improve competency in these skill areas. The program may be especially beneficial for adults who are preparing to take an assessment for a new vocation, such as policemen, firemen, postal workers, military, ect.

The Sylvan Learning Centers of Maine provide corporations an opportunity to offer a unique benefit to employees and their dependents. Sylvan will communicate these discounts of the Corporate Family Benefit Program to participants' employees via: payroll stuffers, bulletin boards, company newsletters, vendor days and valuable "lunch and learn" forums. The specific approach will be determined individually with each participating organization. Call your local Sylvan center to find out how your company can participate.

If your Parent-Teacher Organization would like to learn more about Sylvan and our programs one of our friendly, local center directors would be more than happy to attend a meeting and give a presentation. Maine centers are located in South Portland, Augusta, Auburn and Bangor. For centers outside of these areas, ask about our Sylvan Online Presentation.
This course contains all of the skills needed to start college as a successful student. More students will graduate high school and apply for college over the next five years than at any other time in history. Although all of the upcoming college applicants will need high test scores and high GPA’s to compete in the college market, they will need more of an edge than ever before. This program will give them the tools to gain that edge. Take courses individually or as a College Prep Essentials Package.
Course Descriptions:
English 101 (24 hours of instruction) $500
To sharpen writing, research, and analysis skills that are needed beyond high school.
College Prep Writing (12 hours of instruction) $250
To provide an opportunity for students to prepare an effective and complete college application.
Study Skills (12 hours of instruction) $250
Allows students to become better time managers through various exercises and lessons involving organizing daily and long-term work, and managing time. Also, focuses on a variety of note-taking techniques and strategies.
Advanced Reading Skills (12 hours of instruction) $250
Designed to double or triple a student’s reading speed and provide him/her with an array of ways to read, based on the purpose of the reading.
Sylvan SAT Prep (30 hours of instruction) $650
Personalized learning is the key to the Sylvan Prep advantage. Our course provides personalized attention in a semi-private format to help each student score up to his/her potential. Students learn how to develop a unique plan of attack to maximize their scores. Includes specially designed math and verbal course books, and three computer analyzed practice tests.
