Beginning Reading
This program is designed for the reader who needs instruction in basic reading. Students practice and develop skills in phonics, sight words and comprehension. Lessons range from pre-k to 2nd grade so the program can be tailored to individual needs. We will start with an assessment to determine and design an individual curriculum that has specific learning objectives. Warm-ups, guided and independent practices and fluency are used to teach and improve reading.
The ability to read influences all aspects of life, from driving to emergency procedures. Consistent with the National Inst for Literacy and the International Reading Assoc guidelines, Sylvan will focus on the building blocks of reading: phonics, letter recognition, language and listening comprehension. Our approach to reading uses many tools that allow your child to see, hear, touch and move as they learn to read.
