Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
Andy graduated from Boston College in 1997 with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science, and subsequently attained his Masters Degree in Education from Boston College in 1998. He is certified in the state of Massachusetts to teach students in elementary school, middle school, and high school. Andy's teaching background is diverse, having taught 4th graders in a general education setting, along with students with diverse learning needs ranging from 5th to 12th grade. Andy has a background in IEP writing, academic diagnostic assessment, and curriculum development. Andy is a former high school baseball and softball coach and has an extensive music performance background as well.
Linda graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Disorders. She attained her Masters Degree in Education for the Deaf from Western Maryland College. She is a certified teacher in the state of Massachusetts also is certified to teach deaf students. She is fluent in American Sign Language. Linda is also a Level 1 Wilson Reading Instructor. She has extensive experience in the field of education and enjoys interacting with families and children and finds her Sylvan experience very rewarding.
Jennifer graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Psychology. She subsequently attained her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts and is currently a certified teacher in the state of Massachusetts. Jennifer has previous experience teaching reading, writing, math and social studies. She is a dedicated teacher and possesses strong communciation skills. Jenn has a wonderful ability to "connect" with our students at Sylvan and we all love her!
Emily holds a Bachelor or Arts degree in Music Performance and a Masters of Education degree in Elementary Education from Lesley University. She works as full-time ELL teacher before coming to Sylvan. Emily is as lovely as she is creative. She assisted one of our students for months on a history project that made it all the way to "Nationals" for History Day!
Margaret attends Fitchburg State College and recently completed her masters program to teach English grades 5 - 12. She is a 2004 graduate of Mt. Holyoke College and holds a BA in English Literature, and a 2009 graduate from Sarah Lawrence College with a Masters in Women's History. She has earned her initial Teacher's License from Fitchburg State College for Engish, grades 8 - 12. She previously taught 1st grade in Brooklyn NY and is a NY State Certified Teaching Assistant. Margaret began working at Sylvan in February, 2010 and is a welcomed addition to our staff. She teaches a variety of subjects including beginning reading, academic reading, writing, and SAT prep. She has a cheerful disposition, is patient, and loves sharing her passion for reading!
John graduated from Purdue University with a BA in History and a minor in Math. He has had nine years of experience teaching high school math in public schools and joined our Sylvan staff in 2007. He has dazzled our students with his math tips and expertise ever since he arrived. At Sylvan, he has worked with elementary aged students through college. Algebra 2 and Trigonometry are his strengths, but we all vouch that he's a superb instructor at any level!
Carol possesses a Masters Degree in Special Education, a BS in Elementary Education, is a Licensed Reading Specialist, and is a certified Wilson Instructor. She has 27 years of experience working in the field of education and is currently employed in the Narragansett Regional School District. Over the years she has collected many tools in her toolbox, and our students have benefited greatly from her expertise.
