Success Stories

A SAT Parent

"How likely are you to recommend Sylvan on a scale of 1-10?
" 10/10 - We have had excellent experiences with the SAT prep course with both of our children. Your staff is very knowledgable and very helpful. The teachers have been very willing to go the length to help the children understand the material. Thank you for your commitment."

From a Study Skills Parent

"How likely are you to recommend Sylvan on a scale of 1-10?
" 10/10 - Sylvan of Worcester takes a personal interest in my child's success. I feel like they genuinely want him to succeed. Everyone is always willing to help or answer any questions I have. It is truly one of the best investments we have made for my son's success in school. Thanks Sylvan!"

From "D's" to "B's" in Reading and Math!

"Dear Sylvan Staff,
We cannot thank you all enough! Tyler's grades went from "D's" in Math and Reading to "B's"! His progress report came home today, 5/24/10, and it was the best he ever had. All "A's" and "B's"!!! Tyler's grades weren't the only things that improved: his confidence soared! Thank you again for the wonderful work you do, your commitment and dedication are remarkable!"

Sylvan helped with MCAS!

"" I learned the rules of divisibility at Sylvan, and my school doesn't teach it. When I took the MCAS I used the rules of divisibility to help me solve a problem quickly while everyone else had to work out the problem!""

- A 6th grade Sylvan Student

Thank You From a Beginning Reading Parent

""I would like to let you know what a great experience my son had at your school. He learned so many things, including what its like to have wonderful teachers!

Thank you for providing such a warm, safe, educational, and fun environment for [my son]. I will tell my friends what a great center you're running.""

- Hannah, parent of a Beginning Reading Student

I highly recommend Sylvan Learning as a support system to a child's education.

"I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Sylvan Learning Centers. Prior to entering the Sylvan system, my daughter lacked basic comprehension skills. School became an unpleasant challenge for her. She lacked confidence in herself and her work. The teachers at Sylvan were professional and kind. As a result, her MCAS and MAP scores have improved, but more importantly she is confident and happy with herself and her work."

Excerpts from a letter

"June 27, 2006

When I first began attending Sylvan, I was a young child with a reading deficiency. After a few years of patient instructors and some hard work, I was reading better than my fellow classmates. . .

I just want to say that it amazes me that you were able to take me, a shy, self-conscious child who could not read and help me grow into a confident adult preparing to attend graduate school. The funny part is no one believes me when I tell them that I had a reading deficiency as a child because I read just about a book a week. . .

From the bottom of my heart . . . thank you so much, without the reading skills I learned at Sylvan there would be little possibility that I could have made it this far."

- Catherine G., Former Worcester Sylvan student and candidate at California State University

SAT Prep

"I have been counting down the days until I was supposed to receive a letter from Bryant and I have since the beginning of the week asked my mom if anything special was in the mailbox for me. This morning, I opened the mailbox and saw a big envelope from Bryant University on which "Congratulations" was written in gold. I was too nervous to open the letter so I asked my mom to do it for me and I screamed when she told me that I had been accepted for the Class of 2012 under the Early Admission Plan. I could not be happier to know that in September I will be attending the University for which I have worked so hard. I would like to thank you so very much again for all the help you have given me over the summer and until I took the SAT's. Everyone took my goal of being admitted to Bryant seriously and I am truly grateful for everyone's dedication."

July 1, 2008: To all parents wanting to know if Sylvan REALLY works...

"My daughter has been attending Sylvan for 2 1/2 months now in the Writing Program. My daughter went from being a straight D student in writing to a B- student. What's even more interesting is that her teacher commented on her use of the expository framework, a skill she acquired through the tutoring at Sylvan...Her confidence level in her own abilities has gone through the roof and spilled over into other subjects as well.
There is no price tag that can compare with what Sylvan has given to my child. Success cannot even describe the transformation that has taken place. To watch your child go from frustrated and struggling in school, to getting her first A ever, is a feeling more than words can describe.
I wish I had brought her to Sylvan so much earlier."

- Proud mother of an A student, H.J.

Making reading fun . . .

"June 6, 2007

My daughter Brianna started Sylvan this past January 2007. She had a variety of problems with reading, from comprehension to vocabulary. Self-confidence was gone. Reading a chapter book was a form of torture. This April, I looked out my kitchen window to see Brianna sitting on the swings reading Superfudge by Judy Blume. There was no assignment, just a need to read a book on her own and enjoy it!

Thank you Sylvan. You made my fourth grader like reading."

- Colleen Shugrue, Worcester, MA

The thing I liked best about Sylvan was . . .

""How enthusiastic Connor was about going and how much Connor's confidence improved."
- Bonnie W., Sterling, MA, parent of former math student

"It raised my son's SAT scores by 180 points."
- Mary B., Boylston, MA, parent of former SAT student

"the personal attention given the students & the responsiveness of staff."
- Deb T.,Princeton, MA, parent of former AP calculus student"
