The tutors of Hanover Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Hanover staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Hanover Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Tim started at Sylvan this past March. Tim has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Bridgewater State College. Before coming to Sylvan Tim was the Client Service Manager at Ameriprise Financial. Tim enjoys golfing and watching sports, especially the Patriots. His favorite part of working at Sylvan is helping the students reach their potential.
Susan is not only an instructor at Sylvan, but was also earned a nomination for Massachusetts Teacher of the Year in 2001. She has been working for Sylvan for the past four years. This hard working teacher not only has a Bachelor of Science from Simmons College and a Masters of Education from Bridgewater State College, but also has done over 45 hours of Post Graduate work at Bridgewater State College and Fitchburg State College!
Barbara has been with Sylvan for three straight years! She graduated from American University then returned to school at Boston University where she earned her Masters in Education. Aside from being a great teacher, she has two granddaughters who she simply adores!
Emanuel has been working for Sylvan for over a year and a half. Emanuel has attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Emanuel loves outdoor adventure sports such as white water rafting, but if given the choice, he would travel the world looking for adventure.
Kait graduated in 2006 from Salve Regina University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Spanish. She worked as an English as a Second Language teacher and also as a Language Specialist in the Kingston schools for two and a half years. Kait is looking to go back to school to get her Master's Degree in ESL. She loves to eat out at P.F. Chang's and Moe's any day, and on her days off she loves to go kayaking on Spot Pond or hiking in the Fells.
Carl is a retired middle school principal. He started his teaching career as a fifth grade teacher and a junior high guidance counselor. Carl holds a B.S. degree from Boston College, and a MEd degree from Bridgewater State College, as well as post-graduate studies at the UMass Amherst, Northeastern University and Boston University. Carl has been a life long coin collector and collector of rare comic books. He has been teaching at Sylvan for eight years and enjoys working with all students, but especially middle and high school students who need encouragement and motivation.
Meaghan has been working at Sylvan since Sept. 2010 and has throughly enjoyed her time here. Besides tutoring at Sylvan, Meghan works full time as a Paraprofessional at Randolph Community Middle School. She graduated from UMass-Amherst in 2008 witha M.Ed in Elementary Education and is working towards gaining a classroom of her own. In her free time, Meghan enjoys spending time with her friends and family, going to the beach, walking, reading, and baking.
Steve graduated from UMass Boston with a Bachelor's and Master's in English as well as being a member of the Golden Key NHS. He likes popular music from the 60s and 70s, baseball, reading, creative writing, film, History, and travel. Steve enjoys working at Sylvan because he likes being able to help students learn in a non-competitive and personal manner.
Colleen is a junior at Rockland High School. She started as a Sylvan student and was promoted to Instructional Assistant! Colleen enjoys playing the saxophone in her school band where she is the class representative of the Band Council. She also participates in gymnastics and tennis at Rockland High. Colleen enjoys teaching gymnastics at the Youth Commission in her spare time!
Lauren has been working in the Weymouth Public School System. Lauren graduated from Bridgewater State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in May 2010. Lauren also majored in English. Lauren also loves to read, spend time with family, running, walking, and kayaking.
Eric teaches middle school Math and Science and has been with Sylvan for nearly two years. He graduated from Lewis University located outside of Chicago, IL. Eric likes to spend his summer time sailing and volunteering at the Race Point Lighthouse.
Hi, my name is Kate, I am a new member to the Sylvan team. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Boston in January of 2009 with a Bachelors in Management with a concentration in Marketing. Since then, I have worked with many students in their homes, tutoring in various subjects while working full time as a customer service representative in a local bank and working in a small restaurant. In June of 2010, I passed the MTEL exams to receive an initial license in teaching English/Language Arts for grades 8-12. I joined Sylvan in December of 2011 and look forward to working here in the future.
Jane Kent has been with Sylvan Learning Center for 2 years. She received a Bachelor in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She received a Masters in Education in the area of Instructional Technology from Lesley University (suma cum laude).
Presently, Jane is a 5th grade elementary school teacher. She has taught in grades Pre K -8, as a classroom teacher and special education teacher. Jane has also taught science courses for educators at Bridgewater State University. Jane has had the privledge of teaching in four states over the course of her 24 years of teaching experience.
Jessica is a high honor student at a local high school. She is enrolled in the National Honor Society, Key Club, band, and Chorus. She perfoms in both dance competitions and at local theaters.
