Meet the Tutors

The tutors of Easton Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Easton staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Easton Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.

Cindy O'Hara

Center Director

Cindy O'Hara is the new Center Director of the Sylvan Learning Center of Easton. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Massachusetts in Biology. Cindy's work experience has encompassed most recently Post Secondary Education, in the capacity of Director of Admissions/Marketing, as well as two businesses ( Caboodle and Cruise Planners, located in Dartmouth, MA), which she owned and operated for 13 years. Cindy enjoys assisting the families in the Easton area gain an understanding of the services we have to offer each family and child achieve their academic goals and growth, in a nurturing, progressive and professional environment. The mother of two boys, enjoys snorkeling, parasailing, zip line, camping and traveling. She remains active with the American Cancer Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and American Red Cross.

Rebecca Compton

Director of Education

Rebecca Compton is the Director of Education here at Sylvan in Easton. With a Bachelor’s degree from Juniata College in Early Childhood & Elementary Education and Pennsylvania State Certification in the same, Rebecca has had a lot to contribute to Sylvan and the families in the Easton area since January 2010. Rebecca’s work experience varies from being a nanny in Washington, DC to working in retail at Lush (handmade bath and beauty products) to jewelry-making instructor in Providence to Preschool teacher. Her favorite part of working at Sylvan includes: meeting with lots of new families and helping them find the best program in order for them to be successful at meeting their goals. Fun Fact about Rebecca: Rebecca runs an online jewelry store at http://GetWiredDesigns.etsy.com and enjoys craft projects.

Cindy Weiner

Program Manager

One of the newest members of the Easton family, Cindy Weiner comes to us from working at Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Cindy has an Associates degree and is a team mom for town cheerleading. She also co-chairs the school committee and held the position of secretary of the PTA. Fun Fact about Cindy: She loves to volunteer!

Ashley O'Donnell

Community Outreach

Ashley is an Assistant here at Sylvan Learning Center in Easton and began working here in November of 2011. She went to Stonehill College and has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a Mediated Communication concentration and also a Bachelor’s in English. While attending Stonehill, Ashley worked in the Admissions office for four years. She currently is working in the Undergraduate Admissions office at University of Massachusetts in Boston. Ashley also interned at the Center for Nonprofit Management at Stonehill and was participant in their Developing Fundraising Leaders Institute, as well as interned with Stonehill College Campus Ministry and Mission Division. Another position Ashley held was working at a law firm in Brockton. Her favorite part of working at Sylvan is meeting the families to make sure they feel comfortable at the center and helping the High school students we have as they begin their college search. Fun Fact about Ashley: Ashley has been an avid volunteer since she was in Middle School! She completed seven months of post graduate service in the Brockton/South Shore area. Currently, Ashley is in the process of developing an international service trip for alumni of Stonehill.

Chuck Stanfa

Teacher & SAT instructor

Charles (or Chuck as he is better known) Stanfa is our resident Math and Science expert. With his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as MA State provisional certificate in Math, he is the man to see for upper level mathematics and science. Besides his educational merits, Chuck worked at Texas Instruments in Attleboro, MA for 34 years! He held various engineering and managerial positions. He also taught Math at Southeastern Technical High School in Easton for four years. Since September of 2006, Chuck has worked with us here at Sylvan and loves helping students achieve their goals in improving their grades, understanding math concepts, and taking successful tests (such as SAT, ISEE, SSAT, ACT, ASFAB, and others). Chuck’s hobbies and interests include: Astronomy and Nature Activities.

Lois Quinn

Teacher

Lois Quinn is a teacher here at Sylvan and has been with us since 2008. Her expertise is in Math, as she was Head of a Math Department and has taught Mathematics in various Middle and High Schools in MA (Brighton, Needham, Dedham, & Avon) as well as Texas and Virginia. She also has worked in Administration as a Curriculum Coordinator for Mathematics and as a Middle School Principal. Lois has many degrees which make her an asset to Sylvan, including a Bachelors of Education in Mathematics, a Masters of Ed. Curriculum and Instruction and her CAGS (Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study) in Leadership and Administration. Lois loves helping students understand and be successful with their lessons. Fun Fact about Lois: Lois is an ordained Minister! She also loves to write and is an artist!

Eric Millet

Teacher

Eric Millet is a licensed Secondary Education teacher in History and English, with a Bachelor’s in History from Bridgewater State and a Master’s in History from Providence College. He has been working with us at Sylvan since June of 2009. Currently, he is working as a substitute teacher and ELA/MCAS tutor in Mansfield, but has taught in Pawtucket and Attleboro public schools as well. His favorite part about working with Sylvan is working with kids and building relationships with the students as he helps them improve their grades, study skills, and increases their education. Fun Fact about Eric: He is an avid reader and owns hundreds of books!

Debra Jenkins

Teacher

Debra Jenkins is a teacher here at Sylvan and has an extensive background in many areas of Education. She has taught middle school Reading, Social Studies and Study Skills for ten years in a MA public school setting. For the past eight years, she has been a coordinator for an early literacy home visitation program, the Parent-Child Home Program. Deb received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary and Middle School Education with a minor in Social Science from Gordon College, as well as a Master's of Education degree from Cambridge College. Since April of 2010, Deb has worked here at Sylvan and her favorite part of teaching is seeing a child's face light up when they realize that they have mastered a skill they once found difficult to grasp. Fun Facts about Deb: She is a mother of three teenagers and enjoys scrapbooking, arts and crafts and spending time with her family.

Diane Lockwood

Teacher

Diane Lockwood is one of our teachers here at Sylvan and currently works as a 6th grade Reading Teacher in a local school district. She has completed a comprehensive Elementary Teacher Certification program at Arizona State University in Tempe and earned a Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. For more than six years, she taught in a combined K–1 classroom in New Jersey. While in Arizona, she tutored school-age children and developed and implemented preschool programs for children ages three to five. Diane has also earned certification in Elementary Education and as a Reading Specialist in Massachusetts.

Tricia Anderson

Teacher

Tricia Anderson is a high school Spanish teacher and has worked at Sylvan since May 2011. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Spanish, a Master’s in Education, and is certified to teach Spanish, grades 5-12. Her favorite part of working at Sylvan is being able to work with a variety of students, who are a variety of ages. Fun Fact about Tricia: She loves to read and crochet!

David Francis

Teacher

One of our newest teachers, David Francis, began teaching here at Sylvan in February 2012. He has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and completed 6 credits as a New York City Teaching Fellow for Adolescent Education. Currently, David is pursuing his Master’s in Teaching from Rhode Island College. So far, he loves working with students in small groups here and enjoys the great opportunity of being able to work one on one. Fun Fact about David: David is a violinist and has been playing music for 12 years! He currently plays violin with the Wheaton college orchestra.

Dick Murphy

Dick Murphy has worked at Sylvan since August 2011. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northeastern, and a Post Baccalaureate from Bridgewater State in Education, Dick has 5 years experience in teaching middle school (ten years in teaching Sunday School) plus twenty five years in Accounting and Finance. His favorite part of working with students at Sylvan is being able to pinpoint the students’ specific needs in testing and then helping with those needs. Fun Fact about Dick: He was part of a Chess club for three years!

Melissa Shepard

Teacher

Melissa Shepard has many skills that make her an asset to us here at Sylvan! For eight years, Melissa taught Spanish at Bridgewater Raynham Regional High School, using her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. After getting her Master’s degree from Bridgewater State in Counseling Education, Melissa was a school counselor at Brockton High School. Additionally, she has worked with the Extended Day program in Brockton at various elementary schools both as a teacher and site coordinator. Melissa has been with Sylvan since 2011 and truly enjoys working with students in the small group setting. Fun Fact about Melissa: She has 9 month old twins who keep her VERY busy!

Jessie Gabriels

Jessie Gabriels comes to the Easton Sylvan Learning Center from our Brookline center. She has been with Sylvan since 2008. Jessie hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from the University of Vermont, and a Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist from Sage Graduate school. Jessie is currently a fifth grade teacher. Jessie’s favorite part about working at Sylvan is the opportunities it creates to work with students of all ages and to see the success they feel from attending Sylvan. Fun Facts about Jessie: Jessie grew up outside of Albany, New York and enjoys running, skiing, reading, and traveling.

Jenn Tonelli

Teacher

Jennifer Tonelli is an Assistant and Teacher here at Sylvan and specializes in English, Reading, and Writing. Jenn holds a degree in English and Secondary Education from Bridgewater State University and is currently pursuing Graduate School while enjoying her job teaching reading to students here. She student taught at Norton High School for a semester and worked with elementary students at the Huntington School in Brockton for two years in an after school program. Jenn also was a free lance writer for the Easton Patch, an online newspaper. The best part about working at Sylvan for Jenn is getting to help students in a small group environment and being able to give students more attention than one is able to in a typical classroom. Since January 2011, Jenn has been an assistant here, and she began tutoring in January of 2012. Fun Fact about Jenn: Jenn studied at Oxford University in England in July of 2010 and hopes to study there again in Graduate school!

Chris Nametz

Teacher

Chris is an elementary school teacher currently teaching in the Taunton Public Schools. He has taught 5th and 6th grade and worked as a teacher's assistant in all elementary grades. He particularly enjoys teaching Math and Reading. He obtained his B.S. at Providence College and his Masters in Elementary Education at Lesley University. He is currently continuing his education at Bridgewater State University. Chris' previous background is in commercial banking. He resides in Foxborough with his wife, and two children. His favorite part about working at Sylvan is helping students to recognize math in our everyday lives and enjoy reading for pleasure. Chris started working at Sylvan in January of 2012. Fun Fact about Chris: Chris enjoys playing guitar, hiking in New Hampshire, and being with his family!
