The tutors of Brookline Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Brookline staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Brookline Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Nicole has been working for Sylvan for over 6 years as a teacher, program manager, Director of Education and Center Director. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and is also a certified teacher. Nicole is currently pursuing her Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Boston College. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys exploring all that Boston has to offer and taking care of her chihuahua, Cricket.

Tim graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary English Education. He plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in the literary field. At Sylvan, Tim loves to teach language arts, math and college prep. In his spare time, he loves to read and act.

Dana attended the University of Wisconsin and Southwest Texas State University. While in Texas Dana taught in a 5th grade classroom. She has worked for Sylvan since 1998 and has been back in Boston since 2005. Dana teaches our reading, writing, math and college prep programs. She is also responsible for student prescriptions and assessments. In her spare time, Dana enjoys running and spending time with her dog.
Tim has been with Sylvan for several years and previously taught middle school. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University and Michigan State University. He likes to travel, hang out with friends and read.
Jessie graduated from the University of Vermont in 2004. She then received her masters degree from Sage Graduate School. Jessie is currently a fifth grade teacher and enjoys teaching reading. Her hobbies include going to the beach, listening to music and eating at new restaurants.
Jackie graduated from Northeastern University with a bachelors in History and Latin American Studies. She later received her masters in Urban Education from Boston College. Jackie has been in Boston since 1994 and enjoys collecting postcards, traveling, playing sports and cooking.
Jess comes to Sylvan from Northern Virginia where she grew up, went to college and taught high school for 2 years. Jess holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and has been teaching and tutoring kids of all ages for over 10 years. While Jess could be called a math geek, she really is a bookworm at heart and is currently studying English and Children's Literature at Simmons College. This is Jess's first time living in a city and she loves Boston! While she hasn't had much time to explore yet, she has found a great place to find delicious pastry-- yay Mike's in Little Italy!

Annie is originally from California, but moved to Boston to study Secondary Education and Math at Boston College. She is currently working at the Urban Science Academy in West Roxbury, teaching Pre-calculus and AP Calculus and advising the yearbook class to juniors and seniors. This is Annie’s third year of teaching and she loves every minute of it. The students are great and they keep her entertained daily. Annie really enjoys eating at new restaurants, so please recommend any places for her to try!
Anna recently graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Mathematics Education and a minor in Sociology. After living in 6 different states, she is excited about settling down back on the east coast. Anna loves traveling and has a newfound love for Harry Potter. She has been a math tutor for three years and absolutely loves it!

Bess hails from the great city of Washington, DC. She went to the same school that the show 90210 is based off of, and honestly, she's not that proud of it. After graduating from Winston Churchill High School, she went on to cold and lovely Boston where she got her undergraduate degree from Northeastern in English and Elementary Education. She is currently enrolled at Simmons for her masters in Language and Literacy Development. Try saying that three times fast. While not in school, Bess enjoys water sports (when the water isn't below freezing), reading a million books on her Kindle, cooking, eating, and blogging about it, and singing in her blues band, Revolutionary Road. Currently she works in a special needs classroom in Natick, and absolutely loves it. Who wouldn't?
Jason is a southern California native coming from Sylvan in Beverly Hills. He is currently enrolled in the Mathematics Ph.D. program at Boston University, and a Williams College graduate. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, and has been to several European countries.

Jaclyn began working at Sylvan Learning Center in Brownstown, Michigan in November of 2009. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Michigan State University. She recently moved to Boston after being offered a position at Massachusetts General Hospital as a Research Technician. Jaclyn is very excited to be here and loves exploring the city. In her free time she likes to run and watch football, cheering on the Patriots and her Michigan State Spartans.

When Sarah was a student her favorite subjects were History and Math, so after high school she decided to study Political Science and Economics at Boston College (Go Eagles!). In 2008, she moved to Houston, Texas to teach 3rd and 4th grade. She’s happy to be back in Boston working with Sylvan students. When she’s not teaching, Sarah likes to read, hang out with her dog Rufus, go to the movies with friends, and watch lots of sports. Her favorite teams are the Patriots, Red Sox, and of course, the BC Eagles!
Matthew is originally from a small rural community in Connecticut and has fallen in love with the city life
and all things Boston. He graduated from Emmanuel College in May 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Elementary Education and Liberal Studies. During his time at Emmanuel
College he was a private tutor, instructing two elementary students in French. Matthew is currently
pursuing his Masters in Learning and Instruction with a specialization in English as a Second Language
from Northeastern University. Along with his continued studies, he also works as an after school
educator in Newton. Matthew has a profound love for food and always enjoys trying new restaurants
or cooking for family and friends. Photography is also an interest which he continues to practice as he
explores all that Boston has to offer. Since moving to Boston, Matthew has also become an avid runner
and is excited about participating in his first 5K!
Melynda moved to Boston about four years ago to finish school. She graduated from Lesley University in 2010 with a Secondary English Education degree, and is currently pursuing her masters in Moderate and Severe Special Education from Lesley University. She has been a Sylvan Instructor since August 2011 and enjoys every minute of it! During the day Melynda also works at The Boston Center and Franciscan Hospital for Children. When she is not enriching the minds of young children she enjoys baking, dancing, and reading as much as she can!
Two years ago, Olivia moved to Boston fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in New England. A native New Yorker, Olivia studied at Bank Street, and taught 5th grade in New York City and Maryland. In addition, Olivia teaches at Otis House, which is part of Historic New England. She is a proponent of non-traditional learning environments, and enjoys teaching in museums and botanic gardens. When Olivia is not at the Otis House or Sylvan, she is writing, reading, taking long walks and dreaming up designs for window boxes and gardens.
Julie is excited to join the Sylvan crew in the evenings. She spends the day teaching first grade at the New England Hebrew Academy down the street in Brookline. She studied psychology at Boston University and Early Childhood Education at Boston College. She loves teaching reading, writing, and math.
Lisa is originally from Long Island, New York. In 2008, she spent 6 months teaching in a literacy classroom in Melbourne, Australia. After this experience, Lisa decided to go into teaching as a career choice. She moved to Boston to pursue her Master’s Degree in Education at Boston College. In May of 2011, she completed her degree in Secondary Teaching: History and English as a Second Language. She currently teaches history to English language learners at the high school level, but loves working with students of all ages.
Sara has been an educator in a variety of capacities since 2003. She is a state certified Visual Arts Educator with a Masters degree in Art Education. She has experience tutoring individuals with learning differences at the Elementary, High School, Undergraduate and Graduate levels. She is an artist and enjoys writing poetry, hiking, listening to music and spending time with friends.
Kristine is originally from Florida and moved to Boston in 2005. She got her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and her Master’s Degree in Special Education, both from Boston College. In her spare time, Kristine likes going to the movies, shopping downtown, and trying new restaurants.
Jon is originally from Vancouver, Washington. Currently, he is a sophomore at Boston University majoring in Psychology. After receiving his degree, he hopes to pursue a career in either teaching or developmental psychology. In his spare time, Jon enjoys watching movies, reading mystery novels, and playing basketball, tennis, and ping pong.
Aaron was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Christmas day! When Aaron entered high school, he moved away from home to attend Squaw Valley Academy, a boarding school in Lake Tahoe California. Every day after school Aaron got to go snowboarding at Squaw Valley, an Olympic Ski area. Aaron is a now a sophomore at Suffolk University, where he is double majoring in Global Business and Entrepreneurship. In his free time Aaron enjoys reading, playing video games, skateboarding, and surfing.
