Success Stories

Thank You

"To all the staff at Sylvan Learning and Josh Parsons

Just wanted to thank everyone for all their support and time during our 10 months at Sylvan. Your professionalism, prompt starting/ending times, and willingness to come to Connor's school was more than I expected. Connor didn't like having to be tutored twice a week, but really never complained about coming to Groton. He looked forward to the small display of toys, of course, but knew he had to work hard to earn those tokens! It became a part of our routine and I must say, I'm sad to see it end. Hopefully the skills Connor learned, will stay with him over the next few years. OR you may see us back again! Thanks again."

ACT Success!

"Maddie is a junior at a local high school who hopes to attend the College of William and Mary in the fall of 2012. She knows that her ACT and SAT scores need to be in the top percentiles to get accepted. Maddie attended 1:1 ACT prep tutoring during the spring of 2011. After she completed the ACT, we received this email from her mom, Carrie:

"Josh- I just wanted to let you know, Maddie got a 32 on the ACT. 97% for the state. Thanks to your staff for the tutoring! She will see you in mid-May to prepare for the June SATs."

Maddie shared that she felt that the tutoring was very helpful. The tutors were really friendly and able to adapt their lesson plans to meet her specific needs and skills. The 1:1 instruction was great. She enjoyed attending, and she wishes she could always say the same about school.

UPDATE (7/11/11):
Josh- Once again, I wanted to share the good news with you-we just got Maddie's most recent SAT scores on line: 710 Critical Reading (up 50 pts), 710 Math (up 40 pts) 670 Writing (up 20 pts), 69 Multiple choice (up 20 pts) her essay score was the same at an 8. Thank you so much for all of your help. We will keep you posted as to how the application process goes.
Carrie"

Here's What Parents are Saying

""Hi Josh, thanks for following up. I actually have meant to contact you the past week. Conor's school year has been very enjoyable, for him, and for us. Homework has been only marginally challenging for him. Although writing was his major obstacle in third grade, he spent so much energy struggling with it, that even his "easy" subjects became a chore. Now, with his writing struggles all but behind him, all of his subjects in fourth grade have been a breeze. But the real prize was a written report that Conor did two weeks ago on Mars, that he received a 100 on! His time at Sylvan was a Godsend, it has changed his academic life. Thank you and your team, again, for you care and efforts."

"Hi Josh, Cal asked me last week if you had contacted me/us to inquire...
School for Cal has been so far so good. She's high honors at the moment, and I expect that to stay unchanged.

In science they're using mean, median, mode, and range within the lessons, and Cal is rockin' it because of her knowledge.
Her teacher was impressed because although she lost a few days to feeling unwell, she didn't miss a beat due to what she learned over the summer.( & she's got a pretty rough and tough science teacher)
Thanks for remembering to get in contact with us. That means a lot."

"Hi Josh, I believe next week is Sophie's last week at Sylvan. I want to thank you so much for all of the help your program has given Sophie and for the confidence you have instilled in her regarding her reading ability. Second grade would have been a very different year if we had not been a part of Sylvan.""
