Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
Peter Bartoli graduated with a degree in secondary education and history from Saint Peter's College in 1995. He joined Sylvan in 1997 as a part-time instructor while living in Santa Fe, NM. Peter was promoted to serve as the center's Director of Education. In 2000, Peter was employed as the Director of Education for the center in Madison, CT. In April 2001 Peter purchased the Southbury Sylvan Learning Center and has served as the owner and Center Director since that time. Mr. Bartoli takes great pride in the quality of the educational programs that are produced at the Sylvan Learning Center in Southbury. He meet with parents and students to ensure that the educational plan that has been created meets the needs of the student.
Linda has been with Sylvan since August 2008, teaching Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Math Essentials and Academic Writing. Currently, Linda is a literacy tutor working with first graders for Pomperaug Regional School District 15 in Southbury, Connecticut. She earned a B.S. degree from University of Rhode Island and an M.S. degree in Education from Western Connecticut State University. In her spare time, Linda enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and running.
Alex Composto received her M.S. in education as well as her B.S. in Psychology and Mathematics from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. She joined the Sylvan team in August, 2008. Currently, Alex is employed by the Oxford School District in Oxford, CT. Her strengths as an instructor include Beginning Reading, Study Skills, Math, Algebra and Academic Reading tutoring. Her hobbies include hiking with her dog Bailey, making beaded jewelry and spoiling her Godson.
Christina obtained her educator's license from the University of Bridgeport. She has been working with Sylvan Learning Center since 2004. Currently, Christina is employed by the Pomperaug Regional School District 15 in Southbury, Connecticut.
Her strengths lie in her ability to utilize positive reinforcement to assist her student's in attaining their true academic potential. Christina teaches Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Academic Writing, Math Essentials and Study Skills for Sylvan Learning Center.
Christina is a mother of two and enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, baking and yoga.
Elaine graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Education and an M.S. in Educational Administration, Curriculum and Supervision.
Elaine Smith has been working with Sylvan Learning Center since 2001, first as an instructor and then she served as the Director of Education for 6 years. Currently, Elaine teaches 7th and 8th math and serves as the Chair of the Math Department at Saint Rose School in Newtown, CT.
Elaine continues to work for Sylvan Learning Center because she loves to help students develop life long strategies for learning. She thrives on the one-on-one interaction with her students.
Elaine is an avid sports lover and long-suffering Red Sox fan. Elaine also loves to go to the UCONN women basketball games. She keeps herself busy reading, traveling, watching movies and visiting with friends and family.
Laurel Morris has been with Sylvan Learning Center since 2003. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Human Development and Family Relations, and holds two Master's degrees, one in Counseling and School Psychology, and the other in Elementary Education. She is currently employed by the town of Seymour CT as a teacher in the Literacy Department at Chatfield School. She thoroughly enjoys working with children of all ages and in many subject areas.
