Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
Miss Christine is our Director of Education and Center Director. She oversees all students' education and center operations, including the diagnostic assessment which determine each students'individual prescription. She meets with parents to report on progress as the student attends sessions. Christine is a graduate of Rutgers University and is a NJ Licensed Teacher of Mathematics. She has numerous certifications of Sylvan's programs, including Mathematics Content and Policy Proficiency. Prior to her promotion in 2009 as Director, she worked for 6 years at our center as our highly respected and loved resident upper level math teacher (Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Calculus, Trigonometry). She also taught Academic Reading, Writing and Study Skills. She is a natural mathematician and has a large following of dedicated students who think she is awesome! She has been known to help aspiring teachers study for the Math portion of the Praxis test and also taught our SAT Math (and Verbal). Now, she is simply IN CHARGE! Way to go Christine!
Miss Stef works in many roles in our center. She has all Sylvan Certifications for Center Director and Director of Education. She handles oversight of the day to day activities with attendance and education. She is the smiling face greeting you in the lobby and helping teachers and children come in the educational center. She is available during all instructional hours to assist and keep all education moving smoothly. If you call our center during instructional hours, you will probably reach Stef who handles all schedule changes, makeup dates, etc. Stef loves testing the children and makes them feel welcome and get through the time easily. She is energetic, great with the little ones and keeps very busy as a Math/Education Major at Rutgers University in addition to her many roles at our Sylvan center.
Come to our center and be greeted by a smiling face with a cheerful and lively welcome! That's Miss Stefanie...everyone loves her! She is our center Administrator so if you call during the day, you will probably reach her. Stefanie is a fabulous test administrator she's been doing it more than 10 years) and our nervous testers soon realize there is nothing to be nervous about. Miss Stefanie will make the time fly and get them to do their very best. Stefanie is the person on the other end of the phone---calling to remind parents of conferences for updates on student performance. She is the backbone of our center, handling all administrative functions to keep the center humming along. Her sparkling personality makes the days brighter!
Miss Megan is a NJ Licensed Elementary School Teacher who graduated from Rowan University and has her Masters from Salus University. At one time, her brother attended Sylvan and she enjoys the opportunity to give back and assist students who struggle like her brother did! She has worked with high achievers as well as middle and high school students who have challenges with learning.
Miss Megan is actively studying in the field of vision rehabilitation and worked with peers to raise a German Shepherd puppy for The Seeing Eye that is currently guiding a blind woman in SC.
Miss Megan is a certified Sylvan Director of Education. She meets with the parents of new testers as well as Ongoing Conferences to update our parents every 12 hours about how the education program is proceeding. She also continues to teach periodically and currently is overseeing the instruction of an ELL student. Miss Megan prides herself on being cheerful, professional and resourceful---all elements of a strong Sylvan team member!
Miss Amanda joins us as a NJ licensed Elementary School Teacher with Advanced Standing in Grades K-5. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Writing Arts from Rowan University where she made the Deans List and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
She has quite a bit of tutoring experience and has worked with low-income English Language Learners to help with schoolwork. She is familiar with Spanish, was a member of Phi Sigma Sigma Fraternity and the Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization.
Miss Bridget is a very diversified instructor who teaches Math up through Algebra 1 as well as Reading, Writing, Study Skills and our Advanced Reading Skills course. She also is a trained Test Administrator and helps with new assessments. She is a graduate of Immaculata University with her BA in English and is a NJ Licensed Teacher of English. She is bright and cheery and loves helping students of all ages. And, she just became engaged in June to a wonderful man who will soon be her husband, so be sure to check out her ring and congratulate her!
Miss Catherine has been with our center for many years. She teaches Reading, Writing, Math (including Upper Level Math such as Algebra 2 and Calculus), Study Skills and Homework Support. She also teaches SAT Verbal and Math.She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and is a NJ Licensed Teacher of Biological Sciences. She is very well rounded and can handle just about anything. She is a true asset to our group! And, in case you think you recognize her...you just might---she was a contestant on Jeopardy in 2008. We are very proud of her.
Miss Deanna is an Upper Level Math instructor at our center. She can even teach Chemistry as well as Calculus.
Miss Deanna is a graduate of Rutgers University with a BS in Chemistry. She is State Certified as a tutor at the Rutgers Learning Center.
She is working with eager-to-learn Math students at our Sylvan, teaching Math Essentials, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and PreCalc.
Miss Deanna has participated in Quilts for Comfort, making quilts for families with premature babies and has volunteered at Crozer Chester Medical Center and Habitat for Humanit. She just returned from a trip to France, which she loved and now she is in full swing helping our students grasp all those tricky math concepts!
Miss Elsie is an Upper Level Math instructor who is able to teach trig, and then some! She just loves that challenging math material and relates well with students of all ages and math ability. Miss Elsie is a graduate of Rowan University with her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. You can find her with a whiteboard and a sharpie taking our students step-by-step to work out math solutions.
Miss Harriett is another instructor who has been at the center many years. She teaches reading, writing and study skills always with such positive motivation! She graduated from Brooklyn College and is a licensed NY teacher. She's great with the little ones and very patient. Her style encourages them along and they are happy to work for her and do their best!
Miss Kristen is a bright, energetic and engaging instructor who is certified as a Teacher of the Handicapped, Advanced Standing Teacher of Reading, and Elementary School Teacher. She is a graduate of Rowan University with her Bachelor of Arts and has a Masters of the Science of Teaching, Collaborative Education. She has many Honors and Awards and has attended Educational Workshops on topics such as "Autism and Aspergers: Strategies that Work" and "The Motivational Breakthrough: Reaching difficult to reach students". She puts her many skills and talents to work with our Reading and Writing students and makes sure their time at Sylvan is well spent! She also helps with Initial Diagnostic Assessments, particularly those little ones who we call Beginning Readers. She is great at coaxing and encouraging them to get the best results!
Miss Liz is a diverse instructor who brings many strengths to her teaching. She is a graduate of Chestnut Hill and is a Licensed Elementary School Teacher. She teaches reading, math, writing and study skills with alot of passion. She particularly loves study skills and works very hard with her students to get them organized and productive.
Miss Megan T joins us with a Certificate in Advanced Standing in English. She attended Montclair State University where she made the Dean's List while obtaining her BA in English (Teaching). She teaches Language Arts (reading and writing). She has worked with individualized instruction to struggling writers, focusing on technique and process, so we look to her for lots of help with our struggling writing students! And she has worked with testing to determine grade level of students with special needs. She can even teach math!
Miss Monaz is a graduate of Syracuse University with a Major in Mathematics and earned her Masters of Science at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a NJ licensed Teacher of Mathematics. Miss Monaz instructs our students in Algebra 1 and Geometry. And, as an added skill, she is well versed in Gujarati, French and Hindi.
Miss Monica is certified in Reading and Mathematics and is a diversified teacher for our center. She is a graduate of Rowan University and is a NJ Licensed Elementary School Teacher with Mathematics Specialization. She has worked as a Literacy Volunteer to teach ESOL. She is very organized and methodical with our students and guides them well as they learn their skills.
Miss Samantha, aka 'Sam', has joined us as a Teacher of Reading, Writing, Study Skills and administering Assessments. Sam comes to our center with a Masters of Science in Teaching with a specialization in Elementary Education from Rowawn University where she made the Deans List and was a Member of Alpha Epsilon Lambda National Honor Society. She she attended Rowan where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and graduated Cum Laude.
Sam has a strong educational background and we are so happy to have her on our team. She brings additional teaching experience with her, having experience helping with the educational and social development of children on the Autistic Spectrum. She has taught in an inclusion classroom setting and is strong with using learning centers, multimedia tools and various hands on manipulatives to ensure success for all different styles of learning.
We know Sam will be a great asset to help all students at Sylvan
