Success Stories

Confidence, Motivation and Strength

"My daughter started attending Sylvan in January of this year. Her reading and writing levels were very low. She had a hard time pronouncing large words and proofreading what she wrote. Her teacher told me that if she doesn’t get extra help in those two skills, she would not be promoted to the next grade.

Once she started Sylvan, I have seen lots of improvement in her reading. She gained lots of confidence, motivation, and strength when she reads and write. I have seen lots of improvement in her reading and writing skills.

Donna (the Center Director) has a great personality and she listens to parents’ concerns and problems. I am thankful for her dedication and respect.

Thanks to Sylvan, she passed the ELA test and she is going to the 4th grade. I congratulate all of the Sylvan staff and teachers for such dedication, hard work and confidence that contributed to my daughter’s achievement.

Keep up the good work and may God bless you all."

Keep Up The Good Work!

""I think my son, Baron, is very intelligent, however, he usually has trouble focusing on one thing for more than two hours. Since he started tutoring at Sylvan, I noticed that his focus has really improved. He has gained the ability to tackle math problems a lot faster without asking for calculators. His reasoning has also improved.

He has not been with Sylvan long enough to show a lot of improvement in his grades, but so far, I’m confident that will come with time.

Keep up the good work.""

Andrew's Success

"At the age of five, Andrew had expressive language delay. He was frustrated by his difficulty expressing himself. Andrew was recommended speech (2x a week). In first and second grades, Andrew needed more help in the areas of reading and writing. Andrew was given reading recovery. He needed individual instruction in phonics in order to improve his performance in reading.

For three years (from second thru fourth grades), Andrew attended Project Read for two days after school and outside of school, Andrew participated at the Family Centered Tutorial Project at Starret City for also two days. When Andrew got to the third grade, he was doing well in all areas of his academics with the exception of his reading comprehension and decoding skills. Andrew was recommended for reading resource to develop phonetic analysis and decoding skills. Andrew received reading resource (5x a week) for third, fourth, and fifth grade.

In fifth grade, Andrew strived to improve his reading skills. In reading and writing, Andrew went from approaching the grade level standards to meeting them. Last summer before Andrew started Junior High School, I had Andrew attend the Sylvan Learning Center so he could get ahead in his reading skills. I didn’t want Andrew to forget everything he had gained in his reading. The new school was going to be a challenge for him. Most of the children were functioning on a higher level then Andrew (they were in a gifted program).

Thanks to Sylvan Learning Center, Andrew was able to move up one grade level in reading. He has mastered many skills in reading especially improved his fluency and comprehension levels, he has a positive attitude towards reading, and he enjoys engaging his time in reading. Andrew was able to keep up with his school work and he got promoted to the next grade with a 91.5 average.

In reading, Andrew is meeting the grade level standards and is well on his way to surpassing them."

Thank you!

"Edwin's grade was very low from 50-60% and he could not read and he could not comprehend what he read. His teacher in the 2nd grade Miss Baron encouraged me to register him at Sylvan. Thank God, that day Sylvan's team was at St. Mark school, I registered him the same day for an assessment. This is the best thing that I have ever done, about 3 months after he started Sylvan, he received his report card. Oh, how I cried, and I hugged the teacher. I went to Sylvan and showed them the report card.
Thank you very much Sylvan Learning Center. Keep up the good work. I have 3 children and all of them will come to Sylvan."
