Dear Families,

Here at Sylvan, we look forward to working with you to establish a curriculum that will enable your child to excel academically. Using a customized curriculum, our staff of certified teachers will work individually with each your child to reach his/her goals. With our established reading and math programs, we not only focus on our students’ success, we guarantee it.

Using a unique combination of standardized tests, diagnostic tools, and personal interviews, Sylvan's comprehensive Skills Assessment will highlight academic strengths and help us uncover problem areas. We'll review the results of the assessment with you and use them as a framework for tailoring a personalized learning plan for your child. Our assessments are so comprehensive that you’ll be able to see each area in which your student is successful or struggling. There will even be an assessment that determines whether your child is a visual, auditory, or haptic learner, so that we can cater our lessons to their preferred learning method. Finally, although your student may test in one particular subject, the Skills Assessment spans multiple academic areas and will help uncover gaps in other subjects as well.

Once we have these results, we will set your child up with an individualized curriculum that will help fill in learning gaps and build the student’s learning sets. You can choose from one or more of our courses, including Academic Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing, Homework Support, and Study Skills. We also offer classes to prepare students for exams, including the Citywide, Regents, SAT, TACHS, SHSAT, etc. If you don’t see what you’re looking for on here, ask us! We’ll be glad to customize a program to fit your child’s needs.

Not only are our programs fitted to your student’s needs, but our schedule is flexible as well. We're there when you need us most, including evenings and weekends. Our personalized tutoring plans are divided into one-hour sessions of instruction delivered several times a week depending on your child's learning needs.

To keep you regularly updated on your child’s progress, we provide scheduled progress reports and conferences at least every 12 hours of instruction, or once a month if sooner. During these meetings, we will look in detail as to what skills your child has mastered, as well as those skills we will next be working on next. Together we will work to build the confidence, knowledge, and skills your child needs to be academically successful.
