Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Fern Hurley
Center Director
Fern oversees student services and center administration for the Clifton Park Sylvan Learning Centers. She knows the value of a high quality education and is committed to ensuring that each family has a positive experience at Sylvan. Fern earned her Bachelors from Niagara University and her Masters from New York University. She has over 15 years of experience serving children and families in Upstate NY and has been with Sylvan since 2005.
Jennifer Bloss
Teacher
Jennifer has worked for Sylvan in various capacities since 1996, serving as an instructor, program quality manager, and Director of Education. She shares a committment to educational quality and a love for learning. Her educational training, including a Masters in Multicultural Education, coupled with her extensive experience at Sylvan, aids her in helping students to reach their full potential.
Colleen Codden
Director of Education
Colleen is a welcome addition to the Clifton Park Staff. She has previously worked in the Albany Sylvan center as a teacher and Director of Education and has taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades at a private school. She holds a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Sage Graduate School. Colleen enjoys working with students in Sylvan's individualized setting and being able to give them lots of attention!
Joanne Clegg
Teacher
Joanne is fantastic at Regent's Prep and has helped many students with their Math and Science Exams. She teaches at Capital Region BOCES and her background includes teaching NAVY midshipman at Annapolis.
Tom Leewe
Teacher
Tom has taught at Sylvan for 10 years and is a favorite among Sylvan students. In addition to his "day job" at Stillwater High School, he is a Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves.
Jeanna Stapleton
Teacher
Jeanna is a certified elementary education teacher who has worked at Sylvan for approximately five years. She also substitutes at the Bethlehem and Guilderland School Districts. She is great at making reading fun for the younger Sylvan students!
Doreen Tiernan
Teacher
Doreen has been a teacher at Sylvan since 2005. She holds NYS reading certification and is a retired professor of Humanities. Doreen has worked with students of all ages in reading, writing and study skills. She enjoys gardening, painting, reading, and walking her dogs!
Cassie Anslow
Teacher
Cassie is a certified English Language Arts teacher. She received her Bachelors degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Cassie currently works within the North Colonie school district. Prior to joining the Sylvan team, Cassie had tutored at various grade levels. Her love for education and her bubbly personality make her a great teacher at Sylvan.
Andrea Gregory
Admissions Counselor
Andrea completed her Bachelors of Science at SUNY Oneonta and has a strong background in both customer service and tutoring. As Admissions Counselor, Andrea works with families new to Sylvan’s services and builds awareness of the programs offered at the local Sylvan Learning Centers.
