Sylvan Math Essentials

Sylvan Math Essentials helps children at various skill levels improve their math skills. Students are given the Sylvan Skills Assessment to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in areas such as numeration, fractions, multiplication and problem solving. An individualized program for each student is designed based upon this skills assessment. Students learn the basics of mathematical computation as well as critical thinking skills such as problem solving, estimation and logic. Students master a new skill before advancing to the next level, ensuring the retention of information long after it is learned.

Academic Reading

Students in the Sylvan Academic Reading program develop the tools necessary to read more efficiently and with greater comprehension. Academic Reading gives students concrete goals and measures results, so they can see real progress. Academic Writing

Sylvan helps students learn to organize their thoughts and effectively communicate them in writing. Sylvan's Academic Writing program teaches students how to tackle even the toughest assignments with confidence. Students master the ability to write a variety of documents, from paragraphs to short essays. Students gain the ability to express themselves clearly and concisely, and learn the skills necessary to excel on the writing portions of school exams and standardized assessments.

Handwriting

Sylvan is proud to offer handwriting for our students in grades two to five. Handwriting is a fun,
interactive add-on for students who are looking to enhance their penmanship skills in print, cursive, or
both. It is taught in conjunction with any in center Sylvan Program.

Our study skills program can help your child approach homework and studying with less stress and more confidence. We’re here to help your fourth or fifth grader develop the following skills:

• Organization and time management, including how to organize binders, utilize study time and set goals
• Note-taking, including listening skills, managing information and basic note-taking
• Reading and studying, including how to use notes and textbooks to study properly
