Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Kenneth J. Schmidt
Executive Director
Realizing that as many as 50% of the students in school could benefit from a Sylvan program, Ken established the first Sylvan Center in WNY in 1996. With an M.S. and M.B.A. from SUNY at Buffalo, Ken is responsible for the Center's relationships with the community and its future direction. Most importantly, he is responsible for assuring that our service is delivered with the highest level of student and family satisfaction.
Julie A. Beecher
Director of Education
Julie's leadership skills, creativity and dedication are helping to provide an enjoyable and successful learning experience in our Center. She obtained a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Math from SUNY College at Oswego. In addition to her public school teaching experience, Julie has gathered more than 5 years of experience, both as an instructor and Director of Education, at several Sylvan Learning Centers on the East Coast.
Catherine A. Kursar
Lead Instructor
Katie quickly became an integral part of our Sylvan team. She received her B.A. in Mathematics from SUNY @ Geneseo and is a leader in helping high school students understand math and prep for Regents and SAT exams. She works diligently to prepare lesson plans daily and assess new students.
