Kim is a graduate of St. Francis College with a BS in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. In 2005, Kim received a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from St. Francis University. Kim taught for three years locally. She has been with Sylvan since the center opened in January 2001. She previously served as an instructor and then one year as the Director of Education. As the Center Director, Kim is responsible for all duties related to managing the center.
Jennifer is a graduate of the California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Jennifer completed her student teaching experience in both a fourth grade in Belle Vernon, PA and a kindergarten in Fredericktown, PA. Jennifer is a Presidential Scholar and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society for education. As the Director of Education, Jennifer is responsible for administering the Sylvan Program to ensure academic growth for all enrolled students.
Shirley is a graduate of St. Francis College with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics/ Education. She gained over twenty-five years of teaching experience at St. Patrick School / St. Demetrius School in Gallitzin, PA. Shirley currently teaches at Holy Name School in Ebensburg, PA.
Tammie is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She has been substituting for the Altoona, Hollidaysburg, and Central Cambria School Districts. She has also been involved with many community activities to help further her professional developement. These activities include Earthkeepers, Project Wild, Project Learning Tree, Balanced Literacy, and a Lifeskills training program.
Elizabeth is a magna cum laude graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in English Education. She completed her student teaching experience at Cambria Heights High School in Patton, PA, where she designed and implemented lessons for the 9th grade general and enriched English classrooms.
Brianne is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Secondary Education – English. She completed her student teaching at Wilson Middle School and Strong Vincent High School, both in Erie, PA. While at Edinboro, she volunteered at the University’s writing center, helping students with a range of writing issues, including ESL students, students with disabilities, and those in need of just a little assistance. Following graduation, Brianne taught grade 9 English and Creative Writing at Midwood High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was named Midwood's First Teacher of the Year in the Spring of 2008.
Kristy graduated from the California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She completed her student teaching experience in a second and fourth grade class in West Jefferson Hills, PA. She substituted for several school districts for two years before teaching at St. Joan of Arc School in South Park, PA. Kristy also taught for a year at the Sylvan Learning Center in West Mifflin, PA. After moving to the area, Kristy began teaching fourth through sixth grades at St. Michael’s School in Loretto, PA. At the school, she serves as the Director of the Diversity Organization and the Assistant Director of the Forensics Program.
Pam is a graduate of the Indian University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She has certification in Special Education K-12, Elementary Education, and a concentration in mathematics. Pam completed her student teaching at Ben Franklin Elementary in Indiana, PA, and a Life Skills Support class at Penns Manor High School in Clymer, PA. At IUP, Pam was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, was on the Leadership Team of the Council for Exceptional Children, and belonged to Sign-In (the sign language club). Pam has worked as Theraputic Support Staff for Family Behavioral Resources, and as a Summer Resident Camp counselor for the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania. Pam is currently employed at the Learning Express Pre-School.
Nichole Boland, Instructor, is a graduate of St. Francis University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education / English. In 2009, she was a recipient of the Raymond Berner Scholarship in English/Communications. She completed her student teaching in 8th grade language arts classes at Central Cambria Middle School in Ebensburg, PA. She has also worked at the Cambria County Child Development Corporation, at the Treasured Times Daycare and Preschool location in Ebensburg. Currently Nichole works as a substitute teacher for the Penn Cambria and Central Cambria School Districts.
Jennifer is a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Reading Concentration. In 2008, Jennifer finished her Masters of Education and received K-12 literacy/reading specialist certification from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Jennifer has worked as a long-term substitute in the Cambria Heights School District and as a long term reading specialist substitute in the Central Cambria School District. Currently, Jennifer is working as a substitute teacher at various local school districts in Cambria County.
