Ms. Leslie is our Director of Education. She holds a B.S. in General Studies/Writing, a National CDA, and various certifications in Child Development. Prior to joining Sylvan, Ms. Leslie spent 7 years as a parent educator teaching child development and conducting developmental assessments. Ms. Leslie has spent most of her career in the field of education and child development including an accumulation of 8 years as a pre-school teacher. She has a passion for education and loves being a part of the learning process in the lives of children. In her free time, Ms. Leslie enjoys reading, writing, and going to the movies.
Ms. Mindi is a Penn State University graduate with a BA Degree in Elementary and Kindergarten Education. She has a Master's Degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University. She currently teaches 5th grade at Chadwick Elementary. She has taught 4th and 5th grades in Charles County and has also been a Reading Resource teacher.
Ms. Cynthia has taught at Sylvan for over two years. She received her BS in Math from North Carolina State University. She also teaches Algebra at Howard Community College. Ms. Cynthia is very artistic and enjoys sculpting and crocheting in her spare time.
Ms. Angie graduated from California University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Spanish. Her graduate degree was from Johns Hopkins University with a Master's Degree in Administration/Supervision and Teacher Leadership. She has taught grades 2-6. She is currently teaching at Brock Bridge Elementary School. She loves spending time with family and grandchildren, reading, and gardening.
Ms. Ruth graduated from Cheyney State College in 1960 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Presently, she substitute teaches for grade 1-8 in Baltimore City Public Schools.
Mr. Marcelino graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 1963 with a major in Physics. He completed graduate work in Education at Johns Hopkins University and Loyola College in Space Science and School Administration. He retired from the Drug Enforcement Agency after 25 years and then taught physics and chemistry in the Baltimore City public school system. Mr. Marcelino is currenty working as a substitute in Howard County. He has traveled extensively throughout the Amerias and the Far East as well as these United States. His current interests include Educational issues as they affect Howard County.
Mr. Chris is from Albany NY. He has a Bachelor degree from Villanova and Masters degree in Secondary Education from SUNY Albany. He is currently an A.P. world history teacher at Woodlawn High School.
Ms. Emma graduated from Frostburg State University with an MBA degree. She currently works as an Enrollment Manager and Instructor at University of Phoenix. Her hobbies include relaxing on the beach, eating delicious foods, and walking. She is interested in making a difference in the world.
Mr. Thomas is a 9th grade English teacher at Atholton High School in Columbia. He earned a BA in English and a BS in Marketing from the University of Maryland, and he has a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University
Ms. Kerry has lived in the Baltimore area all her life. She received her Bachelor's degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from Towson University. After graduation, she earned her certification in Special Education and is now currently a 6th grade, Special Education teacher in Howard County. She has been teaching at Sylvan since August 2011.
Ms. Jen attended Glenelg High School and Salisbury University. Her degree was in English Education and is certified to teach Middle School Math as well. She currently teaches at Murray Hill Middle School 7th grade Reading. She enjoys playing soccer.
Ms. Margaret is retired from Howard County Public Schools where she was a Reading Specialist. She obtained her B.S. from Louisiana State University and her M.S. in Reading from Western Maryland College.
Melissa has been working with Sylvan Learning Center since September of 2009, and has been with Sylvan of Ellicott City since relocating to Maryland in April of 2011. She received dual degrees in Elementary Education and Literature from The Richard Stockton College of NJ. She currently works in the Howard County Public Schools, and brings a natural enthusiasm and flair to her instruction which gets student's excited about learning. She currently teaches reading, writing, beginning reading, math, study skills, and SAT Verbal. In her free time you will find her on the beach, writing, doing yoga, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends.
Mr. David started tutoring math and chemistry when he was in high school. He has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California. He has taught college-level Mathematical Chemistry and now brings his talents and skills to Sylvan of Ellicott City. Mr. David likes reading the classics in his spare time.
Mr. Faiz has a degree in Mathematics and Physics from James Madison University. He also has a Maryland Educator Certificate in Mathematics and Physics. He has taught in high school and colleges most of his career and enjoys being able to teach Mathematical concepts to students in a fun and memorable way. He has a passion for teaching students and sharing his love of math.
Ms. Cynthia is an Instructor with over 11 years experience at Sylvan Learning Center. She holds a B.S.and an M. Ed. in Special Education with a concentration in Speech Pathology. In addition to providing instructional services at Sylvan, Ms. Cynthia is in her 26th year as a Speech and Language Pathologist in the public school setting and has one year experience as a Gifted Teacher. She provides speech and language therapy services to students with speech, voice, fluency and language disorders, along with conducting speech and language assessments. Ms. Cynthia possesses a strong passion for helping her students to become more effective and productive communicators and she strongly believes that having a disability does not make one disabled. Ms. Cynthia enjoys traveling, shopping, going to the movies and listening to great music.
Ms. Sharon has been a certified Special Education Teacher with a “Highly Qualified” designation in Mathematics (Algebra 1 and 2) for 9 years. For the last 5 years, she has taught within the Montgomery County Public schools. She earned a BSW from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a Masters of Education from Holy Family University also located in Philadelphia. Ms. Sharon believes that instructing students based on their individual learning styles is essential to achieving success. This requires designing differentiated instructions that motivate and inspire all students, in addition to fostering critical thinking habits. Ms. Sharon likes decorating her home and traveling.
Ms. Rodnia is a graduate of Coppin State University. She holds a B.S in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. She has worked for the Baltimore City Public School system's Administrative headquarters for five years. She has also worked as a preschool teacher at the Young School. In her spare time, Ms. Rodnia enjoys spending time with her family, adventurous activities, and reading.
Ms. Janice is a Maryland certified teacher and holds a B.S in elementary/ middle school/ special education.
She also has a Masters Equivalency in education. She is employed with Frederick County Board of Education as a Home and Hospital teacher. She was formerly employed at Carroll County's Board of Education as a Home and Hospital teacher and a Reading Intervention teacher for ten years. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, playing with her dogs, and watching the Orioles and the Ravens.
