Christina has been with our Sylvan family for over a year now! She comes to us with a ton of experience in the public and supplemental education fields, and is a great asset to our team. Christina's degree in Anthropology and Spanish helped her to teach students of all grade levels in a nonprofit setting before coming to Sylvan. Christina's favorite part of working with student is seeing them make progress and grow.
Mike has been tutoring at Sylvan since 2002, and has been teaching in the schools since 2000. He taught 5th grade until 2007 when he switched to teaching 8th grade. Mike enjoys Sylvan because "It's enjoyable to come to a quiet and focused place to help students."
Dan has been working at Sylvan since 2005. He has been teaching elementary school since 2002. Dan states that his favorite part about coming to Sylvan to tutor is the "...camaraderie with the staff and students."
Ms. Judith is a retired elementary school teacher with over 18 years of teaching experience. Ms. Judith teaches at Sylvan in order to fulfill her need to help children succeed academically.
Elena is currently the Program Manager for Education at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. She considers being able to work with students in the outdoors one of the best parts of her job and is continually inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment of the classroom teachers with whom she works. With a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from the University of Michigan, Elena has had the privilege of working with Dr. Bill Stapp, who has profoundly influenced her life and career. Additionally, she has a M.A. in Science Education from the University of Michigan and a M.S. in Environmental Science from Johns Hopkins University. Elena has experience teaching high school and middle school science as well as working for non-profit environmental organizations. In her spare time, she enjoys reading books and doing oudoor activities such as fly fishing, kayaking, and hiking.
Ms. Lauren has been with us for over a year, and is a great asset to our staff. In the daytime, Ms. Lauren teaches elementary school and has great knowledge of all things elementary!
Stacey Overton is a 1997 graduate of Shippensburg University located in Shippensburg, PA. She has lived in Maryland since 2002. Since graduating she has worked as a counselor and teacher for children and adolescents in the juvenille justice system, and those diagnosed with severe learning and emotional disabilities. Her most recent posiitons included being a Special Education teacher at the Phillips School and for the Prince Georges Public School sytem. Stacey has been with Sylvan since March of 2008.
Karla Barrow-Harding has been teaching for four years. She currently teaches science at Bowie High School in Prince Georges County, MD. At Sylvan, Ms. Karla has proven herself to be an effective upper math and science teacher. Ms. Karla says she enjoys working at Sylvan because she loves helping children reach their academic potential.
