Mary taught mathematics for four years in Prince George’s County, Maryland. She taught 8th grade math, algebra, and geometry. For 20 years Mary served as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Hobby House Press, a publishing company located in Grantsville, MD.
Mary Beth served 5 years as an editor and layout manager for Hobby House Press in Grantsville, MD. Her love of children brought her to the field of education. She volunteered at Braddock Middle School’s After School Program and continues a school adoption through her work at Sylvan Learning Center. She is dedicated to ensuring that each child’s program at Sylvan meets his/her individual needs.
A retired teacher with over 30 years of experience in the classroom, Sharon enjoys working with elementary age children and helping them learn academic skills.
An early education teacher for the past ten years, Jennifer is energized by the opportunity to work at Sylvan. She has the experience of working with Sylvan students in her school classroom and was pleased with the changes that Sylvan can make to academics as well as confidence and self-esteem.
Carrol was drawn to the education profession by her passion for helping children to succeed. Carrol believes every child possesses the “power” to be a successful student. She knows some students need a little guidance in discovering this “power.” For this reason, Carrol became an instructor at Sylvan. Carrol encourages her students to do their best and shows them how they can take the skills they are taught at Sylvan and apply them to their schoolwork.
As a special educator, Stacey knows what individualized programs can do to help students gain the skills they need. She enjoys working with the variety of ages, abilities, positive attitudes, and experiences each child brings to his/her Sylvan experience.
Ashley has always loved school and enjoys helping others learn. This teacher holds a B.S. in Social Sciences, a teaching certificate in Middle/High School Social Stuides, Middle School Math and is currently working on a Masters in Special Education through coursework at West Virginia University.
As a new, enthusiastic teacher, Teresa loves getting to know the studetns and ways to help them make academic connections. Her desire to become a teacher began when one high school teacher encouraged Teresa to help students the way her teacher helped her learn.
As a reading teacher and mother, Kathleen brings a wealth of knowledge, patience and motivation to her role as Sylvan instructor. Her own education experiences and drive to succeed helps her understand how to coach and motivate students to be the best they can be.
