Read Across Lynchburg
In March 2012 Sylvan will once again be the regional coordinating sponsor for the annual READ ACROSS LYNCHBURG DAY on Saturday, March 3rd. This fun-filled family event will be hosted at Givens Books & Little Dickens Lakeside Drive location and celebrates family reading. The program starts at 10 am and includes local celebrities reading, an appearance by the Cat In The Hat and games and prizes. Other local sponsors include WLNI-radio, The Virginia Education Association, WSET-TV Channel 13, Book Adventure and Givens Books. All of these sponsors join in encouraging you and your family to participate in the READ ACROSS LYNCHBURG DAY.

Sylvan Lynchburg Honored!
Sylvan Learning Center of Lynchburg was recently honored as the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce 2008 Small Business Award winner. Sylvan was one of five recipients selected from 26 nominated businesses for the annual award. Sylvan, as well as its fellow honorees, was selected based on excellence in the areas of their customer service, business growth, employee retention and community spirit.

HIllcats Kids Club Members Get Free Testing
If your child was a member of the Hillcats Baseball Southpaw Kids Club this year, you are eligible to have a free academic assessment at Sylvan. Call the center at 832-1000 to get more details or schedule an assessment in reading, math, study skills or writing from students from grades K through 10th.

Sylvan is offering a special “Shop & Drop” Assessment package. On Saturday, Dec. 10th, Saturday Dec, 17th and Wednesday, Dec. 21st you can have your child get a free academic assessment. This is a $159 value. This offer would allow you to have the child take the 2-hour and 45-minute assessment while you get in some Christmas shopping. Assessments are available in math, reading, writing or study skills for students 1st grade through 10th. Space is limited. Assessments begin between 9:00 am and 9:30 am and will be completed by 12:30 pm. Call 832-1000 to take advantage of this holiday-season gift of learning.
Sylvan Wins Lynchburg's Family Friendly Busines Award
The Lynchburg Sylvan Learning Center was honored during National Family Week as Lynchburg’s Family Friendly Business of the Year. The Award was presented to the center’s executive director Tom Jennings and center director Bob Morgan during the National Family Ceremony at the James River Conference Center on November 17.
The center was lauded for promoting strong, healthy families and community connections. The award cited the center’s support of families – both the care provided to our employee’s families as well as the families of our students – and contributions to area education efforts.
At the same event 4th-grade students from more than 40 Central Virginia schools were honored for their participation in the National Family Week essay contest on “Why My Family Is Special.” A top essayist from each school was honored and presented a $50 savings bond. Three of the winning students were past Sylvan students.
