Success Stories

My third grader

Only two weeks before DeAndra was to take her 3rd grade EOG tests, her teacher told us that she was concerned about her reading and math skills. We were frantic to say the least. We researched different tutoring avenues and decided that Sylvan was the best choice. We enrolled DeAndra after she marginally passed her EOG tests. Our daughter was very timid in class and wouldn't ask for help. At the end of the first quarter her teacher said she could see a difference in DeAndra from the beginninng of the year, and it just keeps getting better. DeAndra started raising her hand to answer questions in class and willingly helped other students in class. Her confidence level shot through the roof! The wonderful teachers at Sylvan and her awesome 4th grade teacher at school have made all the difference. DeAndra went from not liking to read to being eager to do her daily reading assignments; she went from making a lot of mistakes on homework, due to her lack of understanding, to making fantastic grades, especially on weekly vocabulary tests. Without a doubt, enrolling DeAndra at Sylvan was the best decision we ever made.

This correspondence is being provided to express to you the appreciation that my family has for the quality of tutorial service that Sylvan has provided to two generations of my family.

In the fifth grade, we secured the services of Sylvan to assist our youngest daughter in the development of her reading and mathematics skills as she prepared for the transition to middle school. As a result of the intensive, individualized tutoring she received, she was able to make a successful transition through middle and high school, graduate from Wake Forest University, and benefit fully from the skill building foundations.

My oldest grandchild had similar issues in first and second grade. We sought the services that Sylvan so capably provides, and he was able to successfully address his early academic developmental issues, and be placed in the accelerated learning program in the third grade. He was an Honor Roll student for every grading period throughout his fourth grade experience for the just concluded academic year, and is ready to achieve in fifth grade.
Similarly, my granddaughter had academic areas of need in third grade. Again, we secured the services Sylvan provides, and she completed her third grade studies successfully, falling just short of the Honor Roll for her last grading period.

We are absolutely certain that Sylvan contributed in significant ways in each of the above cases to setting our child and grandchildren on the correct academic course, and feel that the methodology employed by the tutors is at the very highest qualitative level.
Sylvan has our unqualified endorsement as an excellent skill building academic development resource, as evidenced by three concrete examples occurring in my family. We would recommend your services to any parent, grandparent or guardian seeking real results for the investment they make in their child’s academic success and future.

No more brick wall

One day I saw a commercial for Sylvan and something inside me told me to call and set up a meeting. From the time Skylar received her first skills assessment to the time she started her first class, I knew this was a turning point for not only me but my child too. If you can imagine a child that can hardly say "Mommy, I love you" at the age of 2 and is labeled with speech problems and other concerns, then you must know the exhaustion I felt trying to do all I could and feeling like I was always running into a brick wall. Sylvan was there to help my child and to help me. Skylar has been at Sylvan for two years now and she has mastered Kindergarten and is working better than most of her friends in First grade. Yes, we still have speech problems, but with the help and knowledge of Sylvan's teachers and directors we no longer have that concern of whether my daughter is ready for the next grade. I can truly say that the experience I have had with Sylvan and the progress that I have seen with Skylar is one that I will never be able to forget or be able to accomplish on my own. Thanks for all that you have done and all that you will do.
