Summer Fun

July 2008 – We are having a wonderful summer here at Sylvan of Lillington.

The Summer Reading Challenge is going great! We have several people participating in the challenge. So far, our students have already read over 2,500 pages!!! Way to go!! The prize is great, so keep reading for more chances to win.

Can you believe it is almost time to start getting ready for “Back to School” events? This is just a reminder that our summer instructional hours will end on August 15th. So, start thinking about your fall tutoring schedule. We will be discussing these in your upcoming conferences.

School's Out for Summer

June 2008 - That doesn’t mean that learning has to stop! We have a lot of fun and exciting things planned for this summer. Don’t forget about our “Sylvan Surprise Days.” These are listed on your monthly calendar. Everyone who attends on a Sylvan Surprise Day gets a very special treat.

This summer we are “Going for the Gold” with our Summer Reading Contest. We do this contest every year, and this year we are using the Summer Olympics as our theme. For every 25 pages you read over the summer, you will receive a “medal” to be placed into our Grand Prize Drawing. At the end of the summer Sylvan of Lillington is going to give away a huge surprise! We will be giving clues to see if anyone can figure out what the prize is. It is also a great chance to earn a lot of tokens!! Last year, our students read over 5,000 pages!!! Let’s see if we can’t break that record this year!

Sylvan Surprise Days are Here

May 2008 - Wow! It’s almost summer, and we are gearing up for a busy time. Summer is a great time to get in some extra hours and beat summer learning loss.

Sylvan of Lillington will be starting instruction at 2:30 during the summer. Those slots fill up quickly, so please remember to get your requests in as soon as possible.

We have several things planned over the summer. One thing to look for is “Sylvan Surprise Days” which will be marked on your monthly calendars. Sylvan Surprise Days are days that we give away a special treat to everyone who comes for instruction on that day. We will also kick off our annual Summer Reading Program. This is always a fun way to keep students reading over the summer. We have given away some great prizes in the past, and this year will be no exception.

So, grab your goggles and dive into Sylvan this summer!

Start Planning for Summer

Sylvan of Lillington will soon begin planning for our summer schedule. Beginning June 11th we will be adding a 2:30 instructional hour.

New Beginnings

First of all, thank you for making our first few months so wonderful. As you know, we officially opened our center here in Lillington in October, and we are having a great time. We are seeing “Sylvan Moments” every day, and we are looking forward to seeing even more in 2008.

Another Great Month in Our Center!!

Once again our students showed just how generous they are. The entire month of February, we set up a donation box in the lobby for “Operation: Support Our Troops.” Our students could bring items in or purchase goodies from the store to donate. All together, we are sending over $500 worth of donated items to the troops serving our country in Afghanistan. Way to go!!!

We also celebrated Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 3rd. The full time staff volunteered to read to a class at one of the local schools. We had a great time reading to the students and passing out pencils!

We are very excited to announce the start of our new College Prep Writing program. This program is designed for any college bound high school student. College Prep Writing will focus on how to write a college admissions essay and the critical writing skills most commonly used in college. February was a Very Exciting Month

In February The Sylvan of Lillington participated in “Operation: Support the Troops.” Our students had an opportunity to donate items which were sent to our troops serving overseas. They purchased their items from the Sylvan store or brought them from home. During Transition Time they also wrote letters and drew pictures which were included in the care packages.
