Becky Taylor
Franchisee
Becky purchased her first Sylvan franchise in 1987 and currently owns 5 centers in eastern NC. Becky holds a Masters Degree in Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities. Her teaching experience includes ten years in the public schools where she taught exceptional students in in grades K - 12. Although she loves working with students of all ages, she especially enjoys working with middle school students. Becky also had the pleasure of teaching in the College of Education at East Carolina University for a few years before her career with Sylvan. Becky has a passion for Sylvan and has worked with thousands of Sylvan families during the past 23 years.
Debbie Sommer
Regional Director
Debbie is a graduate of East Carolina University with a BS in Elementary Education. She began her career with Sylvan in 1999. As the Regional Director, Debbie assists the local and regional center operations. She works with Sylvan instructors to help students achieve their educational goals; conducts student progress meetings with parents and teachers; selects, trains, and manages staff members; and plans and participates in events that increase community awareness.
Kristen Crumpler
Center Director
Kristen is a graduate of East Carolina University. She began her career at Sylvan in 1999. As the Center Director, Kristen oversees the day to day operations of the Center. She maintains center records, oversees instruction, and assists staff, parents, and students. Kristen also manages accounts, administers diagnostic assessments, and meets regularly with parents and teachers to discuss student progress. Kristen also plans and participates in events to promote community awareness of Sylvan Learning Center.
Mary Cox
Director of Education
Mary is a graduate of East Carolina University. She has a BS and MaEd in Secondary Education/English. She began her career with Sylvan in March of 2008 as a part time tutor. Today Mary is the Director of Education. As the DE Mary oversees all of the academic components of the center. She meets regularly with parents, teachers, and students to ensure the growth and success of each child's program. She assists with program implementation and trains new Sylvan tutors.
Tracey Daughety
Operatons Coordinator
Tracey started with Sylvan in July of 1999. Tracey oversees all of our School/ Contract Services and assists the Sylvan Centers in our region with business operations.
Sherice Smallwood
Program Manager
Sherice has been with Sylvan since 2010. She is a graduate of East Carolina University with a BS in Elementary Education. Sherice currently oversees all of Pitt County Contract Services.
Jennifer Neague
Instructor
Jenni started working at Sylvan in 2009. She teaches Math Essentials, Advanced Math, SAT, ACT, Homework Support, Study Skills, Academic Writing, Academic Reading, and Beginning Reading.
Sharee Brantley
Instructor
Sharee began working at Sylvan in 2011. She teaches Math Essentials, Advanced math, Homework Support, SAT, Academic Reading, Study Skills, Test Prep, and Academic Writing.
April Hagwood
Instructor
April is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and East Carolina University. She has a Bachelors Degree in English Literature, a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology, and holds a North Carolina Teaching License. She has been a wonderful addition to our team and enjoys teaching reading to our students.
Jessica Givens
Instructor
Jessica is a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Family and Community Services. She also attended ECU for the Licensure Program for Teachers where she received her NC teaching license in 2008. Jessica has been teaching at Sylvan since February of 2011.
