Center Instructor

As a part-time Instructor at Sylvan, your primary responsibilities are:

  • Just Teaching! No Lesson Plans. No Preparation.


    If you aspire to inspire, then we want you on our team!

    You will be trained on the Sylvan curriculum and given the tools to teach in a 3:1 setting. As a Sylvan Instructor, you will provide personalized instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Study Skills, SAT/ACT prep and State exams to students of all levels.

    As a successful Instructor, you will teach Sylvan programs, supervise, interact with and motivate students during instruction, reward students for completed assignments, evaluate and document student progress, and communicate student needs to the center manager. You will also inspire students by developing rapport with them and establishing a fun learning environment, maintaining a positive attitude and demonstrating enthusiasm for teaching and for Sylvan.

    We require:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Minimum 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience
    • State level teaching certification (current or expired, not required for math instruction)

  • Administrative/Teacher Assistant

    Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, the part-time Office Assistant oversees and manages all office procedures and other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director. Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a part-time (afternoon/evening) position.

    Duties may include:

    Ø Oversee all aspects of general office coordination.
    Ø Maintain office calendar to coordinate workflow and meetings.
    Ø Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client and staff information.
    Ø Monitor and assist with maintenance of the organization’s website.
    Ø Interact with clients, vendors, and visitors.
    Ø Answer telephones and transfer to appropriate staff member.
    Ø Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

    Knowledge/Skills:
    Ø At least 3 years experience in general office responsibilities and procedures.
    Ø At least an Associates Degree (Bachelor’s preferred).
    Ø Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
    Ø Ability to prioritize work and time management.
    Ø Computer literate, including knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, and internet.
    Ø Ability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to, computers, telephone systems, calculators, and copiers.
