Our Sebring tutors and students are always making center headlines here in our news section. See what we've been up to!
* Speak to your children's teachers or teachers in the next grade about the upcoming curriculum.
* Ask about new subjects and changes in focus. For example, in 4th grade, students usually begin to "read to learn" rather than " learn to read." If your 3rd grade student is struggling with her reading, this summer would be a great time to focus on improving reading skills.
* If the next year will mean a change in schools, such as entering high school, take advantage of orientation sessions where you and your children can learn more about the school.
LET YOUR KIDS BE KIDS.
Summer vacation is a great tradition. It's important to enjoy the time off. But, you can also learn as you have fun. In fact, the best learning occurs when children don't realize they're learning.
Finish your homework faster and easier! With Sylvan Mathprep.com you'll see short videos, corresponding to the exact pages and concepts in your textbook, that explain the math lessons you're studying.
SylvanMathPrep.com presents math problems in a new way, shows you the work so you can see how to do it, and provides practice problems (with the answers!), so you ca master the concepts in no time!

Each seminar includes seven two-hour lessons, for a total of 14 hours. Sylvan creates a positive learning environment by encouraging students to do their best. It is up to each student to decide whether they want to participate. They can donate either all or a portion of their tokens up to the Holiday break. Our goal is to provide families with a holiday meal and gifts. Please help us reach our goal.
August 2011 - Tips to help keep children safe when they go back–to–school from Sylvan of Sebring
Children should:
1. Never take shortcuts. Always stick to routes selected by parents, and stay on main roads.
2. Leave home with money for telephone calls, or a calling card. Remind them that 911 is a FREE call, even from a pay phone.
3. Have “home alone” plans for emergencies, and for phone and door answering.
4. Be aware of “Safe Havens” along walking routes (police stations, fire stations, retail shops), which represent the “right” strangers from which to seek help in immediate danger.
5. Report ALL suspicious behavior and “new adult friends” to parents.
August 2011 - Sebring Sylvan is winding down our Summer Time Fun programs and revving up for a great start for the next school year!
Students are learning how to get organized for the next school year in our Study Skills Program – they are learning great organizational skills including how to organize their backpacks so they are more efficient and effective in the classroom.
Additionally, they are taught great test taking strategies, note-taking skills and time-management skills to assist them in their academic endeavors.
Students are also honing their vocabulary, comprehension, phonics, basic and higher- level critical thinking skills needed to be successful in reading. Our math students are developing or enhancing their skills in problem solving, reasoning, graphing, equations, numerations and functions.
Sebring Sylvan students are prepared and excited about the next school year, they are anxiously awaiting for school to start to show off their new skills that they have acquired during the summer.
Sebring Learning Center supported Fred Wild Elementary School's Spring Fling. We provided grab bags for the students. This event was a huge success and they raised a lot of money for the school. If you missed out in the fun this past month please join us next time as we will be a big supporter again next year. Thank you Fred Wild Students for a great time.
