Sylvan Learning of Clermont Partners with Leesburg and South Lake High Schools

Leesburg High School has more than tripled the Lake County and Statewide average for seniors passing the reading FCAT or ACT to graduate High School in 2011!!!

Sylvan Learning Center delivered an ACT Reading Prep Course on the Leesburg High School campus to seniors that had not yet passed the Reading FCAT. These students needed to pass the Reading portion of the FCAT or ACT with a score of 18 in order to graduate this June. We delivered the program to 42 students. As of this writing we have had 26 students pass the ACT or FCAT. This represents a 62% pass rate...more than three times the Lake County and Statewide historical average.

• Statewide in 2010 – 16% of students that had not passed the Reading FCAT previously in High School, passed the test their senior year.
• Lake County in 2010 – 17% of students that had not passed the Reading FCAT previously in High School, passed the test their senior year.
• This year at Leesburg High 50% of the seniors that had not passed the Reading FCAT to date in High School, passed the ACT and will graduate.

This program has been a tremendous success and it is our hope that with the support of the Lake County Department of Education we will be helping more students graduate next year.

**SYLVAN PARTNERING WITH MONTVERDE**

Sylvan is now the in-house SAT* provider for Montverde Academy. Since the Fall of 2008 Sylvan Learning of Clermont has helped the students of Montverde Academy continue to excel on their SAT. With an average growth of 142 after taking our course, we are enabling MVA's students reach for the stars.

Sylvan Expands its Offerings at Montverde

With the success of the SAT program, we have recently taken on the task of preparing the foreign student body of MVA for the TOEFL. The TOEFL, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, is a college entrance requirement for students from other countries. The success of this year's students has guaranteed this course will continued to be offered in future years.

Exciting News from BookAdventure.com

Starting September 8 and running through October 10, registered Book Adventure users can take quizzes and earn points toward great prizes. Book Adventure is partnering with the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole based on the book series, to award great prizes to those gaining the most Book Adventure points during the contest timeframe. This is another great way to promote reading in your centers and with your local schools.

These popular books by Kathryn Lasky have spawned a movie. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole will be in theaters starting September 24.

Those individuals and classrooms who record the most points in Book Adventure are eligible for the following prizes:

Individual prizing:
• Grand prize - Three winners get an owl adoption package form the National Wildlife Federation
• First Prize - Ten winners receive 4 passes to see the movie
• Second prizes – Five winners receive a boxed set of first four books of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series
• Third Prize: Twenty-five winners get movie posters
Classroom Prizing:
• One winning classroom will receive passes to see the movie for each student - 4 passes per student, up to 150 passes.
The winners will be determined at the conclusion of the contest and contacted the week of October 11.

To celebrate the new look and relaunch of Book Adventure, all Book Adventure users will receive double points from October 3 – 10, 2010 as part of Book Adventure Week.

Supplemental Educational Services

Sylvan Learning Center of Clermont is authorized to serve the students of Lake County with supplemental educational services (SES) through the No Child Left Behind Act. Our curriculum for this service includes both reading and math, giving you the choice to choose the program that will best suit your child’s needs. 

In order to be eligible for SES in the state of Florida, your child must attend a Title One elementary school and be eligible for free or reduced lunch.  If you think your child may be eligible for SES, it is imperative that you contact the guidance office immediately upon enrollment to register them for SES.
