NEW Sylvan College Prep Writing Program

Whatever career pathway a student ultimately embarks upon, one set of brain functions will inevitably play a role in fostering success. These are the functions that band together and result in optimal communication skills. Good communication cements working relationships, social interactions, and leadership capacities. Effective writing is critical to achieving better test scores, writing better college essays and becoming a lifelong communicator.

More students will graduate high school and apply for college over the next five years than at any other time in history. Although all of the upcoming college applicants will need high test scores and high GPA’s to compete in the college market, they will need more of an edge than ever before. Writing is a large part of being successful in gaining college entrance as well as being successful in college and beyond. Part of the college application process is completing an application essay. Unfortunately, only 3% of high school graduates have written a complete essay. The current movement in college writing today is to analyze social and political issues, but 64% of students reported that they had only responded to literature in high school writing and only 7% had actually written about social and political issues.
