Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Chris Fey
Center Director / Prometric Test Center Director
Chris has been with Sylvan Learning since February of 1997. Chris supervises the curriculum for the students at our center which begins with the initial diagnostic assessment which helps him to create an individualized program for each student based on their unique needs. He speaks with parents every few weeks concerning their child's progress in the program. Chris also plays a major role in the organization and management of the center, scheduling students and staff, and helping to supervise staff development and training. Chris is an avid Detroit Red Wings fan, but will cheer for any team as long as he can watch a hockey game! In his free time he loves spending time with his family.
Our Marvelous
Instructors
Our certified instructors serve as the kinetic extension of our administrative
staff. Enthusiasm and a positive attitude are required! In addition, they
are trained on methods of encouragement, positive (never negative) reinforcement,
and Sylvan's proven techniques for teaching and motivating students.
Kathy Woody
Lead Instructor
Miss Kathy has been an integral part of the Sylvan team since August of 2004. Kathy is our Lead Instructor and is ready and willing to help if the Directors are not available. In her free time, Kathy enjoys reading, doing cross-stitch, watching NCIS or the Big Bang Theory. An interesting fact about herself is that she would like to learn to hand quilt at some point. When asked what Kathy enjoys about her time at Sylvan she says, “I enjoy getting to know all of the students and developing relationships with them.”
Danny Frazier
Teacher
Danny has been helping our students achieve success since February of 2001. Danny also serves as a substitute teacher at St. John Newman here in Knoxville. In his free time Danny enjoys reading, walking and watching sports (baseball especially). An interesting fact about Danny is that he has eight great-nieces ranging in ages from 6-22 years old. Danny says, “I really enjoy teaching at Sylvan because I like interacting with the students.”
Lauren Donaldson
Teacher
Miss Lauren has been with the Sylvan team since March of 2006. Miss Lauren mostly works wonders with our younger students, but is very skillful with our older students as well. Miss Lauren loves to spend her free time reading, cooking, but most importantly, spending time with her one and only grandchild. Miss Lauren would like to share the fact that she would like to attend culinary school at some point. Miss Lauren was asked about why she enjoys working at Sylvan and she said, “I love working at Sylvan. The staff is wonderful and very caring. I adore the children! I love teaching and I love the children.”
Jonathan Freeman
Teacher
Jonathan has been a member of the Sylvan team since January of 2004. Jonathan enjoys spending his free time watching Braves baseball and Predators hockey. He also spends time trading and investing in securities. When asked what he likes about working for Sylvan he says, “I enjoy getting to know the students and providing a comfortable environment to learn new skills.”
Sonja Cooper
Instructor
Sonja is an eighth grade Language Arts teacher by day, and a Sylvan teacher by night (and over the summer). When she is isn't teaching, Sonja enjoys working out, playing with her dog, and various outdoor activities. So far, Sonja has completed five half-marathons!
