Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Mike Majzun
Director
Mike has been with Sylvan since 2004. Initially hired as a teacher, Mike held positions as Progress Manager and Director of Education before becoming Center Director in 2006. He is a graduate of Bethany College with a B.A. in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education.
Terri McKinney
Teacher
Terri has been an instructor with Sylvan since 2003. Terri graduated from Youngstown State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Secondary English (7-12).
Marijo Perry
Teacher/Updater/PQR
Marijo has been an instructor with Sylvan since 2002. Along with being an instructor, Marijo oversees programs and makes educational decisions within each program. Marijo is currently an English teacher in Pennsylvania.
Josh Terrell
Teacher/Updater
Josh has been with Sylvan since 2004. Josh graduated from Youngstown State University with a B.S. in Middle Childhood Education (Science, Social Studies). Josh oversees all Sylvan programs and makes educational decisions within our programs. Currently, Josh is a substitute teacher in the Trumbull County School District.
Cathy Mason
Teacher
Cathy was hired as an instructor in 2004. Cathy graduated from Baldwin-Wallace with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She recieved her teacher certificate from Youngstown State University in 1999.
Jackie Lucarell
Teacher
Jackie has been with Sylvan since 2005. Jackie has been labeled the best test administrator that the Niles Sylvan has to offer. When students arrive nervous on their first day, Jackie's friendly smile and gentle voice is what the students become accustomed to. Jackie graduated from Youngstown State with a B.S. in Education.
Katie Tripodi
Teacher
Katie has been with Sylvan since 2006. Originally hired as a TCA for our Prometric Center, Katie has started teaching for Sylvan since the beginning of 2008. Katie recently recieved her B.S. in Early Education in 2007. Katie is currently a substitute teacher for the Trumbull County School District.
Jessica Smith
Teacher
Jessica was hired in March of 2009. She graduated from Youngstown State with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. Her specialization is in reading. Jessica is currently substituting on the Trumbull County area.
