About Your Local Center

For more than 30 years, Sylvan has helped more than two million students learn to read, write, calculate and organize themselves to reach their potential inside and outside of the classroom. More importantly, Sylvan has helped children develop a love of learning and a confidence that they carry throughout their lives.

Help your child catch up, keep up or get ahead

Most students — regardless of their academic performance — can use extra help to achieve their full learning potential in one or more key subjects. At Sylvan, we offer a choice of quality tutoring programs to help students improve overall. Our proven process begins with a Sylvan Skills Assessment test that is designed to identify your child's strengths and needs, so that we can then create a personalized program that's right for your child. Our trained and certified teachers ensure that your child receives the individualized attention necessary to master the skills needed to do better in school and better in life.

Sylvan is more than tutoring.

Every Sylvan Learning Center is a centerpiece to the community and surrounding neighborhoods. At Sylvan, we are committed to being good neighbors and valued partners in the communities in which we live and work. Our more than 900 local centers are proud to work in conjunction with our local school systems and neighborhood organizations to create educational initiatives that benefit children for life.

TEN GREAT REASONS TO CHOOSE SYLVAN

1. Sylvan has been the leading provider of supplemental education for over twenty years. Sylvan continually strives to offer the best programs available, programs which have been developed through clinical research.

2. Individual lessons are designed for the specific needs of each student and updated regularly.

3. Sylvan teachers are highly qualified. They meet state standards and undergo training in Sylvan teaching methods.

4. A low teacher/student ratio exists. A teacher never has more than three students at one time.

5. Each student has a communication log in his/her notebook. The Sylvan teacher uses it to document the student’s work habits and ability to complete assignments each hour. These comments help the director better understand the student’s academic strengths and weaknesses.

6. A prescription profile chart is updated after each hour of instruction to make certain each student is progressing at a positive rate in the overall plan for his/her success.

7. If the release form has been signed, teacher contacts are made via email and telephone. Conferences with you and your child’s teacher will be attended upon request.

8. Ongoing conferences are held each month at the Findlay Sylvan Learning Center to inform of you of your child’s progress.

9. Motivational strategies are used with your child to help enhance self esteem.

10. Assessment evaluations are given after every 36 hours of instruction to students enrolled in Academic Reading or Math Essentials.
