Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
Marissa is a recent graduate of Wayne State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She has her teaching certification in K-5 all subjects, as well as Science & Math through 8th grade. She has worked with students of all ages substitute teaching. She began working at Sylvan as a puller in high school and moved to an administrative assistant and now to Director of Education. Currently, she resides in Bloomfield Hills.
Michelle graduated from Wayne State University with her Masters of Arts in Teaching and has worked for Sylvan for several years. Outside of Sylvan Michelle works at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and takes courses in medical sciences. Her favorite part of Sylvan is watching the students grow and learn.
A little known fact about Michelle is that she loves to travel and wrote the unofficial Sylvan rule book.
Devin is Oakland University graduate with a degree in Math. He is a self-proclaimed nerd who can solve just about any equation. A little known fact about Devin is that he loves cats.
Stephanie attended Central for undergraduate studies and Eastern for graduate studies and has her degree in Math and Counseling. She has been with Sylvan for two years. Outside of Sylvan Stephanie is a middle school counselor and enjoys rollerblading, volleyball and spending time with her family.
A little know fact about Stephanie is that she also has a certification in PE.
Lauren has been working with Sylvan for the past two years. She received her degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan in 2007. When she is not working at Sylvan Lauren teaches 1st grade at a private school is Southfield and enjoys scrap-booking, sports, and time with family and friends. Lauren's favorite thing about Sylvan is seeing the kids grown and learn.
A little known fact about Lauren is that she is an only child of an only child of an only child. She and her husband hope to break this cycle.
Aja attended Wayne State and has her degree in psychology and education. She is currently seeking special education certification. A little known fact about Aja is that she volunteers as a counselor at the Friendship Circle.
Eric teaches high math at Sylvan.
Keri has been tutoring at Sylvan for over a year. She is a sixth grade math teacher during the day, and has been for the past 16 years. She graduated with my BA from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and from Oakland University with a Masters in Reading. Her favorite part of working at Sylvan is the one-on-one she is able to provide the students and getting to know each student's unique personality. In addition to teaching she is the mother of 2 teenage girls whom she adores. She is thankful for the opportunity to work with every child at Sylvan.
A little known fact about Keri is that she started working at Sylvan when her daughter was attending tutoring with us!
John is a graduate of Wayne State University with a degree in Secondary Math. He just recently began working at Sylvan ans is a welcome addition to our staff. John says his favorite part of Sylvan is all of the warm and welcoming staff. When John is not teaching at Sylvan he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.
A little known fact about John is that he developed his own software to help make his classroom teaching easier.
Lesli Tishkowski has been working at Sylvan Learning Center since May 2011. Lesli says what she likes most about Sylvan is that she works with many of the same students every week, and that allows her to get to know each of them on a more individualized basis. In addition to her work at Sylvan, she has been a math and social studies teacher at a private school in Southfield, MI for the past seven years. Lesli earned her teaching degree at Central Michigan University in 2003, and she is currently working on her master's degree in learning disabilities at Eastern Michigan University. Outside of teaching and graduate school, she enjoys spending her free time with her husband of four years at their cabin in mid-Michigan, or traveling outside of the state when they can.
A Little known fact about Lesli is that she walked on glaciers and climbed a mountain while on her honeymoon in Alaska!
