Student of the Week - Never Too Good to be True
"Our daughter, Valencia, hated going to school in May of 2008. She would say, "I'm failing!" She was only in first grade. We didn't know anyone who had gone to Sylvan, but we looked into it because we didn't know what else to do. Nothing we tried was helping.
We took Valencia to the Jackson, Michigan Sylvan Learning Center and the Director, Catherine Briggs, recommended the Beginning Reading program. What Mrs. Briggs told us about the changes we would see in Valencia sounded too good to be true. Even though we felt a little leery, we started the program.
Valencia loved going to the Jackson Center. She talked about how nice the teachers were, and she began to love to learn. This past fall, she went in to school with no problem. Every time she went to Sylvan, she would be so excited to tell us about characters and stories she was reading. She plays "Sylvan" at home and uses bingo chips to give her dolls tokens. We couldn't be happier to learn that Mrs. Briggs was right about the difference we would see in our little girl.
She got "Student of the Week" at school today."
