"I wanted to take a moment and share our thoughts regarding Allison’s growth both scholastically and personally since she started Sylvan.
As any parent, we are extremely proud of our daughter and her decision to come to Sylvan to learn. First, it takes great commitment from a 16 year old young lady to give up 7-8 hours a week to come to your center. Second, Allison wants to be a teacher some day and in her heart, she knew that something had to change for this dream to become a reality.
Currently Allison has been working with the Sylvan program for several months and the progress is palpable. Every teacher and grown up in Allison’s life will tell you that she is gaining confidence everyday, is more independent in her school work and has a new outlook and motivation to succeed in life.
Her entire family would like to say thank you to Sylvan. While Allison is the one doing the HARD WORK, it is Sylvan that provides the path for her to follow. Allison has asked us to let her stay at Sylvan until she goes to College. This request alone is all we need to hear to know that she is at the right learning center."

"My son is currently a 6th grader in the DSM Public School system. Upon his 5th grade graduation from elementary school, he was feeling less than adequate about his language arts skills. His teachers have all along said he was doing the work of an average student, however, his desire to read, struggles with spelling lists and years of low scores in vocabulary on the ITBS tests got us thinking about his true abilities. I suggested we look into some tutoring over the summer, just to build his confidence and to be ready for 6th grade. He excitedly asked if he could go to Sylvan. To my delight, we went, signed up and then received some startling news upon his assessment test. Our concerns were affirmed, my son's skills in this area were that of a first to second grader. He spent weeks working with the Sylvan tutors and progressed very well. His commitment to learning was reinforced each visit. The tutors did the job my son needed them to do, they found his weakness and focused on implementing strategies to bring him up to grade level. The second assessment test was mind boggling, he tested beyond his grade level and we were thrilled. He could be the poster child for Sylvan in my opinion! I am pleased to say that at his first 6th grade conferences he is earning above average scores in all of his classes (proof that reading crosses all subjects). There is not a 'fight' about reading or doing homework thanks to the confidence he gained at Sylvan. He feels proud about his academic accomplishments and desires to do his best now that he has been given the tools. Thank you for the great help!"

"He showed improvement within weeks of attending Sylvan. Josh has continued to move forward in all areas of reading, from vocabulary, understanding, comprehension, and most importantly, his attitude is more positive and his confidence has grown. By February of 2007, Josh graduated to the Sylvan Academic Reading Program and is now reading at his grade level. The personal pride that Josh feels is so rewarding to witness as his parents. We are certain it is because of the Sylvan investment that he has reached these goals so swiftly and smoothly. He is much happier and we are too.
