The tutors of Roseville Sylvan Learning Center are all Sylvan trained and certified so that they can best address your child’s academic needs. Our tutors are dedicated to working closely with you and your child in order to help your child reach his or her goals. We start by pinpointing your child’s strengths and areas for improvement through the Sylvan Skills Assessment®. From there, our Roseville staff develops a personalized learning plan for your child and offers unique insights about what methods will work best with your child. Ultimately, our tutors will build a relationship with your child and provide a fun, engaging, and rewarding learning environment. The Roseville Sylvan Learning Center staff consists of highly experienced and established educational professionals who take great pride in their work with students who want to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Jennifer has worked for Sylvan Learning Centers in a variety of roles since October 2011. As our Community Partnerships Program Manager Jennifer has overseen and run the Ace it! Program within several school districts throughout the state of Minnesota. In addition to running the in school programs, Jennifer has enjoyed working as a Center Director within our Maple Grove and Roseville centers. Jennifer is a graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education in 2004. Previous to Sylvan Learning, Jennifer was a Center Director for KinderCare Learning Centers in Coon Rapids, MN. Jennifer has over 8 years of experience in the education and management field. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her loved ones, getting outdoors and exploring new places, and scrapbooking.
Kelli Abar had more than 8 years of teaching and coaching experience when she fell in love with Sylvan Learning more than 10 years ago. She saw that she could make a real difference with every student who walked into her centers and had been missing that in her classroom. As part owner and General Manager of seven Sylvan Learning Centers, Kelli is responsible for overall operations and overseeing services to hundreds of students all over the Twin Cities Metro.

Vanessa attended St. Cloud State University and received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education, with a secondary focus in Social Studies education. She has held many roles throughout her years at Sylvan since 2006. Vanessa began as a teacher at Sylvan after obtaining her teaching license in 2004. She was the Center Director for several years at our Coon Rapids Sylvan location, and holds her current position as the District Educational Manager, where she loves the opportunity to train and mentor teachers and Directors. Her favorite part of Sylvan is ensuring the best educational placement and progress of all students, as well as helping families everyday. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, son, family, and friends.
Danielle DeVore received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Carthage College in 2012. She is currently seeking a Masters degree in Liberal Studies from Metropolitan State University. Making connections with students and parents, as well as ensuring their experience is
amazing is Danielle's favorite part about working at Sylvan. In her free time Danielle enjoys watching new movies on Netflix and playing with her cat.
Jessi is currently in her last semester at Northwestern College studying as an Elementary Education major with an endorsement in Social Studies; she is currently in the student teaching phase of her education! Jessi has been working at Sylvan for about 4 months and really enjoys being a TA at the Roseville Center! Some of her hobbies include: reading, traveling, and being outside (especially in the Summer!). Jessi is very excited to continue working at Sylvan; working with students and families throughout her time here and learning more about what it means to be an educator.
Kelsey graduated from Northwestern College in December of 2012 with a degree in psychology. Besides being interested in psychology, Kelsey also has an interest in education and has been working at Sylvan since October of 2012. She really enjoys being a TA at the Roseville Center because she loves interacting with the students, families, and other Sylvan staff members! Kelsey plays softball on the Northwestern College Fastpitch team; she is a pitcher and sincerely enjoys being a part of the team. Some of her other hobbies include reading, traveling, and being active. She is excited to continue working at Sylvan and learning more about educating students.
Kathy resides in Roseville - very close to our Center! She attended the University of Minnesota where she received a Bachelor of Science in English and French, with a minor in German. Kathy enjoys working with the variety of ages of our students. She also really likes that there is a small student to teacher ratio so it is easier to get to know her students.
In her spare time Kathy enjoys reading, cooking, teaching Bible studies and traveling.
Suzi graduated from the College of St. Catherine with a degree in French and licensure in Secondary Education. In addition to teaching at Sylvan, she also teaches French, piano lessons, and music classes to students in grades K- 8 (and beyond, for piano lessons.) Suzi has worked for Sylvan since 1998. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her two nieces, getting together with friends, and jewelry-making. One of her favorite things about Sylvan is meeting the new students during testing.
Erin graduated in 2007 from Northwestern College (just up the road from our center) with a B.A. in English Literature and Writing, thinking she was going to be a famous children's book writer or editor. While deciding what to write about, Erin taught preschool in Eden Prairie and returned to school at Bethel University for her M.A. in teaching for grades 5-12 language arts. By day, Erin is a high school language arts teacher and still nurtures the idea of one day authoring children's books. In her free time, Erin loves experimenting with recipes and testing them out on friends and family. She is also a huge fan of coffee.
Erin is excited to be at Sylvan where the students provide daily inspiration and each day is different.
Rachel attended Minnesota State University Moorehead and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education-Learning Disabilities and Emotional Behavioral Disorders. She resides in Roseville and loves working at Sylvan because of the small student-teacher ratio, the staff, and most of all, the students! Her students at Sylvan inspire her and she loves seeing them have such a fun time learning! Rachel enjoys cooking, sewing, painting, reading, photography, and arts and crafts.
Mike is a high school teacher who has taught in the city and the suburbs who teaches English/LA 7-12 and ESL to new arrival students.

Mike likes working at Sylvan because the students are positive and want to learn and Sylvan has a supportive, nurturing atmosphere for them to learn as much as possible. In his spare time, Mike likes to garden and landscape his yard.
Dan received his B.A. from Concordia College in Moorhead. He is now working on getting a Master's of Education in language education from the University of Minnesota. He enjoys that Sylvan offers the opportunity to know students on a more personal level than a classroom and to be able to adapt lessons to their needs. In his free time, Dan can be found reading, weightlifting, studying some new topic, or sitting in front of a computer.
Natalie is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she obtained a degree in Chemistry, Psychology and Coaching. She is starting a Masters of Education program through Augsburg College in July 2013. Previous to Sylvan Learning of Roseville, Natalie was a full time student and worked at Concordia as a teaching assistant, lifeguard, resident assistant and swim lesson instructor. Natalie also has spent three summers as a nanny in the Roseville area, one summer as a camp counselor in Northern Minnesota and two summers as a teacher for the Roseville School District Friendship Connection program. Natalie is brand new to Sylvan Learning of Roseville, and enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas, including Math and Science. In her free time, Natalie enjoys being outdoors, camping, and being with friends and family. She resides in Roseville.
Sean attended Northland College and received his BS in mathematics. During college Sean tutored four semesters of PreCalc through Calc2. He also had one semester as a teaching assistant for a Calculus 1 class and two semesters tutoring Physics1 and Physics2. The times he spent tutoring students were some of the most rewarding experiences of his college career.
Sean's reasons for joining Sylvan include being able to work at a place where he can actually make a difference. He also gets to talk about math, which doesn't hurt.
Sean enjoys running and going for absurdly long walks when he can find a way. Prior to joining Sylvan he spent four months on a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. When not training for a race he spends his time studying whatever branch of mathematics, statistics, or computer science that intrigues him.
William Helm (Billy) lives in Northeast Minneapolis. He graduated from Augsburg
College in 2009 with a BA in mathematics and studio arts. Billy finds it rewarding when he motivate students to accomplish something that they didn't think they could do. Bill spends his free time painting, playing board games, and going out dancing with friends.
Kris is a licensed teacher excited to return to Sylvan. Her experiences range from urban to suburban schools with students ages 4 to 45. Math and grammar are her favorite school topics. In her free time Kris enjoys horseback riding, crafts, and to travel to warm locations.
Melissa lives right here in Roseville! She went to college at Concordia in St. Paul and obtained her degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Special Education.
Melissa says, "I love working at Sylvan because the students inspire me! Each day I work I find myself laughing with the students and even learning from them some new things!"
Melissa's hobbies include scrapbooking, spending time doing activities with her daughter, hiking, walking, biking and traveling.
Jake grew up 5 minutes away from Sylvan in Roseville, and attended Mounds View High School where he played tennis and ran cross-country. After graduation Jake took the unorthodox route into the Marines for the next 4 years. Following his service, Jake completed a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His trip to Australia for his Ph.D. in Physics landed him an Australian wife he met while salsa dancing. Jake now lives in Minneapolis and works at the University of Minnesota as a materials scientist.
He has been frustrated before and knows how depressing it can be to struggle through a course, so he loves creating that “Ah,now I see!” reaction with his students.
