Meet the Tutors
Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:
- Pinpoint your child’s learning needs using the Sylvan Skills Assessment®
- Develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s goals
- Offer unique insights about what will work for your child
- Teach each lesson the way your child learns best
- Build a relationship with your child to provide learning that’s fun, engaging and rewarding
Cheryl H.
Center Director
Cheryl monitors the day to day activities of the Center and holds the Center to the highest standards in the delivery of educational programs. She conducts conferences with staff to discuss students' needs and progress. Cheryl has a B.A. degree in English and Communications as well as B.A.A. degree in Teaching Secondary Language Arts from the University of Minnesota, Duluth.
Kara W.
Director of Education
As the Director of Education, Kara oversees the educational process of the Center and ensures that each individual student's needs are being met. Her responsibilities include continual training of Sylvan teachers, maintenance of student’s educational plans and conferencing with parents, classroom teachers, and staff. Kara graduated from the University of Minnesota, with a degree in Elementary Education.
Laura S.
Program Consultant
As Program Consultant, Laura's responsibilities include addressing parent questions and concerns regarding Sylvan programs, enrolling new students, and center business management. Questions regarding tuition and finances can also be directed to the Program Consultant. Laura also serves as a test proctor for computer and paper-based testing. Laura attended Duluth Business University with a focus on business management and accounting.
Sean W.
Teacher
Sean is a Sylvan certified instructor in Academic Reading, Beginning Reading, advanced Reading, Math Essentials, Algebra, Academic Writing, Study Skills, and ACT/SAT prep. He has been a Sylvan instructor since August of 2000. Sean graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth with certification in Secondary Education. His speciality is upper level math. He also studied for a year at the University of Central England.
Joe F.
Teacher
Joe is a Sylvan certified instructor in Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, Advanced Reading, Math Essentials, Academic Writing, Study Skills and ACT/SAT prep. He has been a Sylvan instructor since September of 2008. Joe received a B.A.A. in Social Studies from the University of MN, Duluth.

Teacher
Heather is a Sylvan certified instructor in Math Essentials, advanced Math and ACT/SAT math prep. She has been a Sylvan instructor since March of 2007. She graduated from the University of WI, Superior, with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Marci is a Sylvan certified instructor in Academic Reading, Math Essentials and Beginning Reading. She has been a Sylvan instructor since September of 2009. She graduated from Bemidji State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education.
Nicole L
Instructor
Nicole is a Sylvan certified instructor in Beginning Reading, Academic Reading, and Math Essentials. She has been a Sylvan instructor since April of 2011. She graduated from the Univerisy of Wisconsin-Superior with a B.S. in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education.

Bobbi is a Sylvan certified instructor in Academic Reading and Math Essentials. She has been a Sylvan instructor since December of 2011. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a B.S. in Elementary Education.

Melissa is a Sylvan certified instructor in Academic Reading, and Math Essentials. She has been a Sylvan instructor since February of 2012. She graduated from Northwestern College with a B.A. in Elementary Education.
