Bachelor of Accountancy, University of North Dakota. Kari started with Sylvan when it opened in July 1995. She rejoined Sylvan in June 2004. Kari spends much of her time introducing families to Sylvan, answering their questions, and matching students up with a program built just for them! In her free time she enjoys going to coffee, playing scrabble, reading, playing with her young children, and spending time with her extended family.
Maren joined Sylvan in 2006. Prior to working at Sylvan, Maren earned her BS in education from the University of North Dakota and taught in the public school system for five years. With a passion for math and higher level education, Maren has overseen the ACT and college prep programs in addition to other programs Sylvan offers. When asked why she chose Sylvan over the classroom, her answer was simple, “At Sylvan, we teach kids to love to learn!” Away from Sylvan, you will find Maren playing outdoors somewhere with her family, whether it is the mountains of Montana, the lakes of Minnesota, or out for a run somewhere in-between.
Tamara started her Sylvan journey in 2004. She was a teacher/administrative assistant in Michigan for almost a year. From there, she moved to Las Vegas, NV. She stayed with the Henderson Sylvan for a little over 6 years in a Directorship position. In 2011 her family decided to move home to the Bismarck/Mandan area. She immediately joined and began as a Director with the Bismarck team. She earned her Elementary Education degree from VCSU and Business Administration from NDSU. Her favorite opportunities at Sylvan are helping families reach their goals, as well as, watching students’ transform with their new found success and confidence! In her spare time, she loves being with her family and playing with her two kids. In addition, she enjoys exercising and watching football (you can always catch her cheering on the Green Bay Packers-Go, Pack, Go)!
Sam Duttenhefner has been with Sylvan Learning Center of Bismarck since January 2012. Recently, she took the position of Educational Coordinator. In the past, she has served as a special education teacher for students with a variety of disabilities in Williston and rural Bismarck/Mandan schools. There she worked working families and community resources to build skills in her students. Her favorite part of teaching is figuring out strategies that work for each individual student so they can feel empowered by school instead of discouraged.
Masters of Business Taxation, University of Minnesota, and Bachelor of Accountancy, University of North Dakota. Ryan joined Sylvan in September 2008. We are lucky to have him here. He manages the "business" side of Sylvan. In his free time he enjoys golfing, softball, running, spending time with his three little kids, and watching football, baseball or any other sport.
Pamela joined Sylvan in March of 2013 and will graduate from the University of Mary in August 2013. She enjoys snowboarding, fishing, camping and spending time with her family. She is so excited to work at Sylvan because she enjoys teaching kids so that they can become the people they are intended to be.
I am originally from Bismarck, where I graduated from Bismarck High School and attended Dickinson State University through Bismarck State College. From DSU, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in English Education. I am also an instructional aide at Century High School, which allows me to work with a variety of awesome students. With Sylvan, I am excited to work with a wide range of students at different ages and with different interests, I feel it will be a fulfilling and fun experience. In my spare time, I love to read and relax at home with my husband.
I graduated from the University of North Dakota in 2007 where I studied German, secondary education, ESL, and minored in psychology. After teaching high school German for six years, my husband and I moved to Mandan to start a new chapter of our lives. I enjoy learning as much as I enjoy teaching. I believe every student has the ability to learn and Sylvan provides the environment and the tools to make it happen.
I graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a degree in Special Education: Developmental Cognitive Disabilities. I like teaching at Sylvan because their lessons are fun to teach and the students seem to really enjoy learning. In my spare time I enjoy watching and playing sports.
Britney joined Sylvan in January of 2014. She graduated Dickinson State University in December of 2013 with a degree in elementary education. She enjoys canoeing and spending time with her husband. She enjoys working at Sylvan because she likes to see their faces when they learn a new skill.
I have a Master's Degree in Reading & Literacy from Capella University and a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Dickinson State University. I have a variety of teaching experience including a combined Seventh and Eighth Grade, Special Education, Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade Teacher. Currently, I am blessed to provide my son and nieces with the best opportunities in my home. I love spending time at church, motorcycling, reading and being with family and friends. I have a great joy being apart of a program that focuses on children building confidence while learning and reaching their potential!
Currently I am a second grade teacher at St. Marys Grade School here in Bismarck. I love helping enrich children's lives and am blessed with the joy that they bring to mine. I grew up outside of Bismarck on a farm, raising cattle and many other pets. I was very involved in 4-H and the community. I graduated from St. Marys High School and then attended college in Helena, MT. After graduating there with my degree in Elementary Education I lived in Mississippi for 3 years while my husband obtained his masters degree. We moved back to Bismarck in 2012 and now live on the farm raising cattle of our own. I love working at Sylvan during the summer and school year. The staff and students are fabulous.

Leah joined Sylvan in October of 2013. She enjoys crafting, time outdoors, motor sports, traveling, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. Leah loves working at Sylvan because she enjoys the smaller student to teacher ratio, and hearing what the kids have to say about life. For her, The most rewarding part of education has been the skill and confidence level increases that she has seen in her students at Sylvan, and knowing that they can feel a difference and can achieve anything. The students and teachers simply enjoy learning!
My name is Josie Stockie. I graduated with a bachelors in science from Dickinson State University, majoring in International Business. I am currently enrolled in a masters of education program at the University of Mary. Working for Sylvan will allow me to interact with students and obtain valuable training in instructional management, as well as classroom management. I am a very active person who enjoys long distance running and ballet. My husband and I consistently stay busy with numerous hunting seasons and seasonal activities as well.
My name is Sherry Wald and I have a BS and MS in Early Childhood Education which I received through UND. In the last few years I went on to get my Elementary Endorsement and Reading and Math credentials. The teaching experience that I have is teaching at West River Head Start for 8 years and my current position is a certified paraprofessional at Lewis and Clark. I am excited to be a part of the Sylvan Team to help students be more successful within their academics and watch the students grow with more confidence in their ability to learn from their successes that the students make due to the tools that Sylvan provides. My interests are reading, baking and cooking, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.
I received my Bachelors of Science in Education from Mayville State University and my Masters of Education, with an emphasis in the Reading from Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
When I am not teaching, I am a mother first. Like many mothers, my evenings consist of; attending the current season of sport practice, attending dad’s sporting events, doing homework, cooking, cleaning the house, and raising children. The things I enjoy doing in my other spare moments are; scrapbooking, playing with my children, and laughing at the funny things they say and do. As a family, we enjoy camping, traveling, and doing activities together even if it is as simple as taking a walk together or watching a movie.
