Our Sylvan trained and certified tutors are dedicated to your child’s success. Working together with you, we will:

Ellen Jacobson
Center Director and Territory Manager for Ace it! Tutoring
B.A. Elementary Education, Minot State University. Ellen is the owner and director of the Sylvan Learning Center in Bismarck. She opened the center in July 1995. Prior to Sylvan she was a classroom teacher in Mandan, ND, and Wibaux, MT, for 18 years. Ellen also is in charge of a new program, Ace it! Tutoring. This program can be taken into the schools and administered there. Ellen enjoys playing with her 3 granddaughters, scrabble, reading, and spending time on the river in the summer.
Kari Weigel
Center Director
Bachelor of Accountancy, University of North Dakota. Kari started with Sylvan when it opened in July 1995. She rejoined Sylvan in June 2004. Kari spends much of her time introducing families to Sylvan, answering their questions, and matching students up with a program built just for them! In her free time she enjoys going to coffee, playing scrabble, reading, playing with her young girls, and spending time with her extended family.
Sue Lacher
Director of Education
B.A. Elementary/Early Childhood Education, College of St. Catherine. Sue has been with the Bismarck Sylvan Learning Center, as Director of Education, since it opened in 1995. She taught for 20 years in the elementary grades and also did a few years in the Head Start Program. She is responsible for the educational components of the Center: assessments, monitoring of students in their educational programs, parent conferences, school contacts, etc. She focuses on students in the Sylvan Beginning Reading, Sylvan Academic Reading, and Sylvan Math Essentials Programs. In her spare time, outside of Sylvan, she loves to read, play scrabble, and is coordinating a group of knitters providing baby caps for the newborn and neo-natal nurseries at St. Alexius Hospital. Sue also stars as "the sister of the Man in The Yellow Hat", AKA Curious George's aunt. Have your teacher call to schedule a visit from the sister to your child's classroom.
Stephanie Gerhardt
Director of Education
Bachelors of Science, University of Mary. Stephanie taught secondary Social Studies and has worked in the public school system as a site coordinator for an elementary after school program. Stephanie started her Sylvan career as a Prometric Test Center Administrator, Academic Reading, and Study Skills instructor. She is also the program manager for Sylvan Online. Stephanie stays busy outside of Sylvan with her 4 young sons and husband. They spend time going to soccer, basketball, church school, hunting and the farm.
Rose Paulson
Sylvan Office Manager
Rose has been with Sylvan since November 1995. She is the office Manager and a Test Center Administrator for the Prometric Testing Center housed within Sylvan. She is the behind the scenes person who makes sure everything runs smoothly!! Rose has two sons in college. She and her husband are now "empty nesters" and also have a new kitty, Boo! Rose loves to garden and is very good at it - yum!
Ryan Weigel
Chief Financial Officer
Masters of Business Taxation, University of Minnesota, and Bachelor of Accountancy, University of North Dakota. Ryan joined Sylvan in September 2008. We are lucky to have him here. He manages the "business" side of Sylvan. In his free time he enjoys golfing, softball, curling (a new experience), spending time with his two little girls, and watching football, baseball or any other sport.
