During this time of year, many students find themselves looking over numerous college applications as well as filling out vast amounts of information on them.  While many now have the ACT scores, grade point averages, and extra curricular activities these applications demand, many are not fully prepared for the most grueling part of these applications, the essay. 

Knowing the high standards that colleges and universities expect on these essays, the Sylvan Learning Center of Gurnee is offering a unique seminar designed for this very need. Getting into College is a college prep seminar designed to prepare college bound students for the type of writing expected on college entrance essays and in college level classes.  It teaches students to:

-         integrate descriptive language into personal writing

-         identify audience and purpose for essay writing

-         determine an appropriate topic for college essay writing

-         create an angled thesis to direct a college level essay
