Study Skills Student Abbey loves Getting Good Grades!!!

"Getting good grades is important to some students. There are many reasons for that, but for me it falls into three reason;you might feel good, you might be rewarded, and your friends might be jealous. Getting good grades is really important to me and I hope that it is important to you.
When you get good grades you most likely feel better about yourself. You also feel a lot more confident. I also want to get good grades because I feel better afterwards, almost like nothing can stop me. When you get good grades your teacher is happy for you and wants you to keep doing that.
For some people motivation is key, whether it be with money or toys. When I get money for my good grades I want to keep it up. Some schools even give rewards for good report cards.
My third reason is that your friends might be jealous and ask for your help and that really feels good to be needed. To me I like it when my friends are jealous of my good grades.
As you can conclude, good grades are great. You can feel better about yourself, be rewarded and have your friends want to be just like you. The possibilities are endless with good grades."

ACT Success

"I took the ACT twice before, and each time I got a 25 and 26. I knew these were good scores, but they weren't enough. I needed at least a 29 to get a full ride to Drury U. where I wanted to go. My parents enrolled me in the Sylvan ACT Prep class to help me. I came here a couple of days a week over the summer. When I was given an assignment I worked on it. I studied regularly to keep things fresh. The instructors at Sylvan were very helpful at explaining the parts of the test, and worked with me to help me succeed. Then the day of the test came around, and, though I was nervous, I was confident. A few weeks later, I got my test scores back. I had gotten a 30! I was so excited! Thanks to Sylvan, I now know my dreams of going to Drury are reality."

We can't thank Sylvan enough.

"01/12/2011 Our daughter was having problems with Algebra and had help from after school tutoring but was not making progress. We contacted the Sylvan in Edwardsville, IL and have been very pleased with the results. They first tested her to see where her problem learning was and began there. That was last Spring (2010), she was making a low D and by the end of the school year (5 weeks) she was at a high C. This year she has maintained an A in math with the help of Sylvan. I can tell you she has more self-esteem and is unafraid to go to school on test day. We can't thank Sylvan enough."

- Trina

Thank you Sylvan!

"We just received our son's first quarter report card, and the entire family is grinning ear to ear! We couldn't be happier! It's a wonderful feeling knowing how far Alex has come.
When we started the program, we were just frustrated and didn't know where to turn for help. It was evident that Alex needed a lot of help and, more importantly, encouragement. He was falling behind, and it was affecting his grades and his attitude.
The teachers at Sylvan were able to work at his pace and make him feel comfortable. Little by little we began to see change. Now we see A's and B's on his report card, and Alex actually enjoys going to school!
Sylvan really worked wonders for our son. We are so very proud of him and all his hard work. We can't thank the teachers enough for their patience and understanding. We'll see you again this summer!"

- Thanks Alex's Mom and Dad

Awesome progress!

"We came to Sylvan - Edwardsville because our daughter didn't qualify for the reading intervention program in school, despite reading almost two grade levels behind. In addition, she was bringing home 2-3 hours of homework a night in fourth grade because she couldn't keep up in class. After six months with Sylvan, she is reading at grade level, getting A's and B's, and has cut her homework time in half! Sabrina and Jenny are wonderful to work with and genuinely care about the success of each individual student! Best of all, our daughter is happy and confident in herself. Thanks Sylvan - Edwardsville!"

Seeing progress in school!! from the Classroom teacher

"I am thrilled to report Johnny continues to grow and progress in his reading. When we are working in small group, I am amazed at the words he is now reading and understanding. Thank you for your continued work with him. Johnny continues to be progressing in reading and reading skills. He is really starting to read and comprehend on his own. He is making connection to the print. I am also happy with his ability to write paragraphs about what he reads. We are working on extended response writing lessons to the 3rd grade reading, and Johnny is one of my better expressive writers. Johnny has come a very long way this year and I cannot thank you/Sylvan enough for all your help and support."
